3-Time World Duathlon Champion, World Aquathlon Champion, and 22-Time 70.3 Winner, @em_pallant #EmmaPallantBrowne. She knows exactly what it takes to win. But what happens when your own physiology feels like the hardest competitor on the course?

We asked our friend Emma to drop the filter and share the honest reality of navigating her menstrual cycle while pushing her body to the absolute limit in elite sports. She gave us the unfiltered truth: the hidden physical toll, the frustrating hurdles, and what this highly demanding phase can actually cost a world-class athlete on race day.

Watch through for some ‘Real Talk.’ This reality is why we are here—and exactly what we are solving for. Follow along for more unfiltered athlete interviews and exclusive behind-the-scenes updates as we build the first-ever luteal phase support product for elite athletes and all women around the world.

At the 2026 Winter Olympics, U.S. figure skater #AmberGlenn shattered one of the oldest unwritten rules in her sport: she told the truth about menstruating on the world stage.

#Figureskating demands absolute precision, balance, and grace—all while wearing a tiny, skin-tight costume. Yet, female skaters have historically been expected to silently push through the luteal brain fog, intense cramps, and the “noodle-y” joint laxity that comes with massive hormonal drops.

After taking to social media to explain how her cycle amplifies emotions in already high-stress situations, Glenn faced a divided response: widespread praise from fellow athletes for shattering a long-standing taboo, alongside critics who attempted to dismiss her biological reality as an excuse. Undeterred, she channeled the experience into ongoing advocacy, ultimately partnering with Kotex to push back against the stigma and normalize how we talk about hormonal cycles and elite athletic performance.

No hiding. No pretending. Just an elite athlete acknowledging the massive physical toll of menstruating while trying to do her job. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🫠💦💦

At the Rio Olympics, Chinese swimmer #FuYuanhui was seen crouching on the floor in pain after her relay race. When a reporter asked if she was okay, she didn‘t fake a muscle injury. She completely shattered an unspoken rule in sports on live TV and just told the biological truth.

The drop in hormones right before and during your period drains your energy and triggers prostaglandins, which literally cause your muscles to cramp and spasm. We’ve been conditioned to hide this pain and just push through it. Women are not just small men, and our energy operates on a cycle, not a 24-hour loop. Listen to your body, not the outdated standards.

Imagine competing at the highest tier of human performance for 10+ years before a single coach or doctor asks how your hormones affect your body.

When French handballer Estelle Nze Minko dropped this reality check, she exposed the biggest open secret in sports: female physiology has been historically ignored. Women aren’t just small men. The luteal shifts in our energy, joint laxity, and core temp are real, biological facts—not excuses.

If elite athletes are demanding that the sports world respect their biology, you deserve to give yourself that same grace today. Take the rest day. 🫶

The physiological tax of competing while menstruating is real. Just ask #LydiaKo.🏌🏻‍♀️🤾🏻‍♀️

During a live 2022 broadcast, Lydia casually explained that mid-round back tightness is just a reality of “that time of the month.” While the male commentator didn’t know where to look, every single menstruating person watching felt instantly seen.

Here is the science behind what Lydia was experiencing: During your late luteal phase and into the start of your period, your body releases prostaglandins to help shed the uterine lining. If your body produces a lot of them, they enter the bloodstream and cause the muscles in your lower back, hips, and thighs to contract and spasm.

That “tight back” isn’t a lack of stretching. It is a literal chemical reaction happening inside your body while you are trying to do your job.

Whether you are winning LPGA tournaments or just trying to survive your 9-to-5, your physical symptoms are real. Take the stretch break. Grab the heating pad. And never apologize for your biology.
