Annie: Love Named Her Twice

“To understand our family is, in many ways, to understand their story.”

Monroe gets to inherit not just resilience, but growth & healing.

There are some loves that never stop reaching for us.

Since Kyro was born, he’s been captivated by Annie’s music note necklace—the one that carries our mom ashes.

He’ll twirl it, kiss it, and hold onto it like it’s always belonged in his little hands.

My mom used to laugh that she wanted “chocolate babies,” but they just kept coming out lighter and lighter, a joke that was really another love letter to my dad.

I often wonder how completely obsessed she would’ve been with Kyro. I see little pieces of both of them in him, and I’m so grateful my dad got to meet his grandson.

Some days, when Kyro reaches for that necklace, I can’t help but imagine my dad checking in on my mom every so often, teasing her that he got to meet him earthside.

Maybe that’s what love does. It keeps finding ways to reach across generations, reminding us that the people we miss are never too far from the stories still being written.

✨ Book Club Vibes ✨

Honored to have selected and hosted this month’s Daughters of the Stone by Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa bookclub session—an evening rooted in legacy, power, and soul-deep storytelling. We explored ancestral memory, feminine strength, and the sacred woven into everyday life.

It felt less like a discussion and more like a spiritual gathering of storytellers. The energy was thoughtful, powerful, and beautifully connected. Grateful for this circle, this space, and the stories we carry together. 💫🐝🪽🇵🇷

Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day Mommy,

Last year at this time, I was frustrated with you because I really needed your support. I felt let down when you prioritized something else over being there for me. When Mother’s Day arrived, I debated whether to contact you. Ultimately, I chose to send you a Happy Mother’s Day GIF because I felt it was important to acknowledge you despite everything.

We managed to patch things up quickly, but I wish my last Mother’s Day with you here on Earth had been different.

Looking back on this moment, I’ll likely feel a mix of guilt and frustration, but I also acknowledge that we’re both human, and such situations are bound to occur. Despite these challenges, we shared a beautiful relationship, and you gave me so much love, lessons, values, beliefs, and traditions. I hope to honor and continue them.

As I continue to cherish your memory I can only recall. All of the good things,

-Summer bike rides on the pier
good things
-Watching films with you in your room.
good things
-When you analyze all your music and dissect the lyrics to teach us the lessons you’ve learned from them.
good things
-Being the mom of the neighborhood.
good things
-Our traditional birthday cake from Valencia
& you spreading icing on our faces every birthday.
good things
-Create new outfits for my baby doll using old clothes.
good things
-holiday tradition
good things
-A midday FaceTime call with you.
good things
-When you offered simple solutions to significant school/work problems. These complex issues were beyond your expertise, yet you still wanted to assist and gave it your all.
good things
-sitting on Pleasant Ave with you.
good things
-you dancing barefoot in the street- my dancing queen.💃

Love Always,
Your Baby Girl

The Bee’s Return: Finding Comfort in Grief

Shortly after my mother passed, each family member encountered a bee in unusual locations, resulting in us sharing these stories.

As we unpacked our stories with one another, we started to embrace the presence of the bee as a messenger and a symbol to the family to let us know she remains close to us—a profound sense of peace throughout the grieving process.

A bee is a remarkable and industrious insect, tiny yet extraordinary; my mom is the epitome of a queen bee in the hive of our family, a regal presence whose influence and love resonate throughout our lives.

Just as the queen bee’s pheromones unify the hive, my mom’s love binds our family together. Her affection created an unbreakable bond fostering harmony, cooperation, and a shared sense of purpose.

The queen bee sacrifices for her hive’s prosperity; similarly, my mom’s life is a testament to selflessness. Her sacrifices, big or small, were made with the family’s well-being at heart, showcasing a devotion that echoes the queen bee’s commitment to her colony.

In facing life’s challenges, she navigated with poise and determination, showcasing a quiet resilience that left an indelible mark on our family’s character.

Everything the bee symbolizes connects so well to my mother, so it makes sense that she will visit in this form. However, as the interaction became less frequent, I doubted it.

Until one day, I looked down at my “Let it Be” tattoo and instantly heard my mom’s voice sing The Beatles song. During moments of difficulty, my mom would reference my tattoo. Bring me back to the right mindset.

I laughed and acknowledged how amazingly clever my mom was when picking her visiting form. She is my queen, and in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me, Speaking words of wisdom, let it beeeeee.

Thank you Mommy 💕🐝🪽

Kyro Amiri Gill - 11/18/23 🧸🦕🚀

Hi Mommy,

I’ve meet your grandson 🩵 He made his way earth side on the 18th. Sharing the same number date as you. I already know he’s going to have so much of you in him.

The perfect soul to fill your absence. Him and the girls are going to provide the comfort we need to heal.

I wish you were here to hold him. I know you got to see him before any of us and all of heaven knows about him. Keep giving him all the angel kisses 👼🏽.

I love and miss you Mommy 💕🪽
