@valtan.yl & @bowen_m always put 110% into every project they have together, and it’s such a pleasure to be able to work with them. Val is not only one of the most positive people on set ALL THE TIME, but she always throws in tasteful lighting and camera gags that elevate the vision. I was in Dongbei with my team at the start of the week for a project with @huaweimobile and this was our driver during our time there. He was very kind and charismatic. However, he was quite surprised when I said I was from Mexico. He told me that he thought I was from Africa because of my long curly hair. We had a good laugh because of that. Once we arrived to our resort I discovered it will be one of the host venues for the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. It is a beautiful place and this time of the year it is completely covered in snow. This brought back memories of Torneträsk. A couple years back, @larsvontiara and I visited a town in the northernmost part of Sweden. After an 18-hour train ride from Stockholm, we arrived at a magical place named Abisko. In this town there is a lake and during our visit it was completely frozen over. I was awestruck by this feat of nature, as I had never seen anything like it before. However, when I first walked on top of the lake I was worried the ice could break. The name of this lake is Torneträsk. Now I was in China and I was walking on top of frozen lake for the second time in my life. However, this time I was not scared because now I knew that lakes freeze over several inches thick. It turns out we can all be surprised by something we didn’t know before. Which takes me back to our driver. Maybe in 2022, when tourists flock to Dongbei for the Winter Olympics, he might not be as surprised to find out that people with curly hair come from many different parts of the world, because now he knows something that he didn’t know before. #cinematogrammers
