Lydia came in for an interview in 2022 just as we were picking up the pieces from the pandemic. What would normally be a 15-minute meeting turned into a full hour of telling stories and laughing over memories that felt like we’d shared together. It was right then that we believed she would be a perfect fit for our team.

Having Lydia at Aita reminded us of the power of connection, compassion, and reallllllly tight hugs. Lydia doesn’t just work in hospitality — she defines it. Look it up in the dictionary and this is the photo you’ll see.

Today we say farewell as she wraps up her twenty-something years in the city to start a new adventure in her homeland of Austria! Best of luck, Lydia, and remember you always have a home here with us too. 💚

💘 HAPPY MUTHAAAAAAS DAY 💘

This documentary will always and forever have my whole heart. My friend Claire gifted me a VHS of it for my birthday when I was a teenager and had just moved to San Francisco, and it changed my life. I always come back to it when I’m feeling down and need some inspiration to lift me up…some of the most 𝓫𝓮𝓪𝓾𝓽𝓲𝓯𝓾𝓵 souls to have ever graced this earth!!! Forever cemented in my heart 🫶🏾

I know this holiday in particular is a tough day for so many of my friends and loved ones, and I hope this serves as a gentle reminder that one of the greatest blessings in life is our chosen family, and the love and support from those in our community. With that being said, please don’t ever be afraid to reach out when you’re feeling low or in a dark place. Life truly is so, so precious and we really do need one another, now more than ever…I LOVE YOU ALL 💋

Unicorns, mermaids, fantastical beasts — you’ll find all of these creatures in painter Lydia Maria Pfeffer’s escapist fantasies.

In the latest #HowArtChangedMe, the artist —whose immersive work is currently on view at @dinner_gallery through Jan. 18 — reflects on finding art in her upbringing. “Growing up working class, art wasn’t something to study academically; there wasn’t any security in it,” writes the Brooklyn-based artist. “Still, I always found a way to draw, sing, perform or do anything that could help me develop a language of self-expression and feel a little more comfortable in my own skin.”
