Thank you to everyone who joined us for TEDxQUT last night. ❤️

We hope you left feeling inspired, challenged, curious … and perhaps with a little spark of your own to take action, start a conversation, or see something differently.

Massive congratulations to our incredible speakers! 🎤👏 The 10 minutes you see on stage are the culmination of an enormous amount of work behind the scenes – from shaping ideas and refining scripts to memorising, rehearsing and finding the courage to step into the spotlight.

We’re so proud of what each of our speakers achieved, and are incredibly grateful to our QUT Student Engagement Events crew and speaker coaches @studiostorytale, @amyjacksonnurturingconfidence and @lizkassab who worked tirelessly alongside them to bring these ideas to life. 🙏

📸 Stay tuned … more event pix coming soon!

I haven’t done a TED Talk. Yet!

Last night I went to watch one live.

For a long time, delivering a TED Talk has been something I’ve visualised. Not simply because I want to stand on that stage, but because it represents having an idea worth sharing and the courage to share it.

After the event, I jumped on stage.

I stood on the red circle, felt the carpet beneath my feet and looked out at the room from the perspective I’ve imagined so many times.

Immediately the vision stopped feeling quite so imaginary.

I think sometimes we treat visualisation as sitting quietly and picturing a future we hope might happen but there’s something powerful about getting as close to that future as you can.

Go to the place.
Meet the people.
Feel the environment.
Put yourself in the room.

Not to pretend you’ve already achieved it, but to give your mind a little more evidence that the life you’re imagining actually exists.

Last night, for a few minutes, I got to stand inside one of mine and man, it felt alive!!

One day!

Shout out to @tedxqut for putting on an incredible event, all the speakers were very insightful and my god daughter @lydiamccarthy_ who did an amazingly flawless job as MC. Proud of you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

🎤 What’s your presentation style?
Confident? Conversational? Chaotic? 😅

Our TEDxQUT speakers have been reflecting on what they’ve learned about their own presenting style, and the answers are as individual as their ideas.
