Here in Montréal with family, and what a sweet weekend it has been — lots of good food, plenty of laughter, and the kind of time together that you wish you could bottle up.

And as much as I love good food, the time with family will always be what I savor.

Feeling especially grateful for these people and for the simple gift of being together. I don’t ever want to take these moments for granted. God has been very good to us.

Full tables, full hearts, and a really lovely weekend.

Some days become memories before they’re even over, and this was one of those days.

Without question, this was the highlight of my time in Italy.

At the very last minute, I decided I wanted to sharpen my pasta-making skills while I was here. After a little searching, I found Loredana—a chef, restaurateur, and teacher with an incredible gift for sharing both her knowledge and her love of food.

She opened her restaurant just for us and welcomed us into her kitchen for a private lesson. We learned to make four beautiful types of pasta from scratch: macaroni, agnolotti, tortellini, and gnocchi.

The morning began with rich Italian coffee and the most delicious homemade shortbread cookies before we got our hands into the flour. Loredana shared her dough-making techniques, little tips that only years of experience can teach, and even showed us how to make macaroni with the help of a broken umbrella—a wonderfully resourceful Italian tradition that I’ll never forget.

We filled delicate agnolotti and tortellini with hearty, flavorful fillings, and her method for making gnocchi produced the lightest, most pillowy bites I’ve ever eaten. They quickly became everyone’s favorite.

But as incredible as the pasta lesson was, the sweetest part of the day had nothing to do with flour or dough.

It was sharing the experience with my sweet cousin Nickie, precious little Gabby, and then sitting around the table together to enjoy a private meal made with our own hands. As if the day couldn’t get any better, Jonathan surprised us by stopping in. It felt like the perfect ending to a perfect day.

Travel has a way of showing you beautiful places, but it’s the people you share them with that become the real treasure.

Thank You, God, for blessings both big and small, and for hearing even the whispers of my heart. This day was everything I hoped for and so much more. It is a memory I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Which pasta would you choose first—gnocchi, tortellini, agnolotti, or macaroni?

Paro Dzong, also known as Rinpung Dzong, is a significant landmark in Bhutan, combining centuries of history with impressive architecture. Situated above the Paro Valley, this fortress has served as a religious and administrative center, attracting visitors worldwide.

The dzong is a 17th-century fortress that symbolizes Bhutan’s defense and spiritual unity. It was built in 1646 under the guidance of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, the unifier of Bhutan, and was strategically constructed on a hill overlooking the Paro Valley to serve as both a fortress and a monastery.

Paro Dzong has played a crucial role in Bhutan’s administration and religion, housing the district’s government offices and monastic quarters. It has also safeguarded the country’s sovereignty during conflicts and is a living symbol of Bhutan’s rich heritage.

The dzong is a masterpiece of traditional Bhutanese architecture, featuring intricate wood carvings, bright murals, and exquisite paintings that narrate Buddhist legends. Its five-story central tower (Utse) stands tall, offering a glimpse into Bhutan’s ancient architectural prowess.

Paro Dzong hosts the vibrant Paro Tsechu festival, a major religious and cultural celebration in Bhutan, featuring traditional mask dances and spiritual ceremonies that attract visitors from all over. The festival is celebrated in honor of Guru Rinpoche and is a spiritual and social event that draws locals and visitors alike.

If you plan to attend the Paro Tsechu, the best time to visit is spring, typically around March or April. The festival lasts five days, with the final day being the most spectacular, featuring the unveiling of the giant thangka, or “THONGDREL.” Visitors should arrive early to secure a good viewing spot and dress respectfully, covering shoulders and legs. Participating in the festival is an incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in Bhutanese culture and spirituality.

Punakha Dzong, often referred to as the Palace of Great Happiness, is one of Bhutan’s most iconic structures, renowned for both its historical significance and architectural beauty. Located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in the Punakha Valley, it was built in 1637 by Ngawang Namgyal, the founder of Bhutan, to serve as a strategic defensive fortress against invasions from Tibet.

The dzong’s design exemplifies traditional Bhutanese architecture, featuring tall whitewashed walls, intricate wood carvings, and magnificent courtyards. Its location not only provided a defensive advantage but also symbolized the unification of spiritual and political power in Bhutan.

In addition to its initial defensive purpose, Punakha Dzong has played a crucial role in Bhutan’s history. It was the venue for important events, including the coronation of the first King of Bhutan and subsequent royal ceremonies.

Today, the dzong serves as the administrative center for the Punakha region, housing various government offices. It is also an active monastery, home to hundreds of monks who live and practice there. The dzong is a significant cultural and religious site, drawing both locals and tourists who come to admire its stunning architecture and scenic surroundings. Its annual festival, the Punakha Drubbing, showcases traditional dances and rituals, further cementing its status as a cultural treasure in Bhutan.

Life isn't meant to be made more complicated than it already is 💁🏻‍♂️

English translation of the lines in the audio :

"I have made life easy. The ones who kept walking alongside me, I didn't stop them. The ones who stopped walking alongside me, I didn't ask them to walk with me."
