#Juneteenth has been celebrated across America for over a century, but last weekend marked only the second year that the historic date has been recognized as a federal holiday. “When I think about Juneteenth, of course I think about freedom,” @lydiatblanco says. “But I also think about the hard work of my ancestors and how important it is to commemorate them beyond the holiday now becoming commercialized.” At the link in our bio, 17 New Yorkers, as captured by @soulsinfocus, share what Juneteenth really means to them.

This girl right here...the definition of going hard for her friends, loving to the max, and supporting with everything she has. Always poised, utterly glamorous, unconditionally loving, and wise beyond her years with insight that can see through fog.

Y'all wish my friend @lydiatblanco a happy birthday (6.18).🎂🥳🎉🎊

🏆I earned that which is sacred: the trust, respect, loyalty, sheer delight, vulnerability, connection, and energy of some of the most extraordinary [some being notorious] humans on the planet.

Ohh, and I graduated. I'm so grateful to the individuals who directly and indirectly influenced by journey as a psychiatric provider. (Tagged). THANK YOU 🙏🏽💙❤️🧡💛💚 #humbled #duson #duke2022 #grateful #leader #withonors

Ok so (lip smack) lol last year I had been having a conversation with #God and I said I wanted to go to the #bahamas, my passport has been THIRSTY for stamps and look at God!!!! So (lip smack) I'm on the line with @judithjacques and BOOM the following week I'm on the plane to #Nassau! The first person I met was @lynzchristiantv and BOW we get dressed and went to the beach! Water was cold, weather was hot and drinks were FREE at the #loveshack! The next morning I met @lydiatblanco @msselenahill @valala77 @inlivingcolored @livefrommelissa @savmtaylor @alizelavie and @judithjacques and it was the best meeting of 2022 thus far. Each of these women have an amazing spirit and each black woman represents their own level of #BLACKEXCELLENCE. We laughed, we cried, we prayed, we danced and we all returned back home with a new sister. I'm the loud excited and spontaneous sister! And I'm still honored and blessed to have been invited. READY FOR THE NEXT STAMP LADIES!!!!! Love you all!!

Thank you @judithjacques @blackwomeninmedia @alizelavie for creating this opportunity and making it possible. Here’s to many more adventures. Happy Women’s Month.
