Meet Lyes Marinko, "The Yorkshire Algerian", a Muay Thai and K-1 fighter representing Algeria and fighting out of Kiatphontip Gym in Leeds.

He is a European, English and ISKA North England kickboxing champion. In September 2026 he added the ISKA British title at WAR Fight Series, beating one of the UK's very best.

Lyes was born in Algeria and moved to Leeds. The first years in the UK were brutal. He arrived with next to nothing and no connections. Fighting gave him structure. He found a home at Kiatphontip Gym under head trainer Jompop Kiatphontip, a former Thai fighter who saw his talent and work ethic right away.

June 2026 tested him. In London he put his opponent down three times in round one. In round two a knee landed while the referee judged his opponent to be down. Disqualification. Many fans called it unfair. Less than three months later he was ISKA British champion.

Follow us because your other hobbies are boring anyways.

@lyesmarinko Entering a fight with problems as many do, accepting ones fait. Overcoming those problems as best one can, finishing the fight with heart and heart alone. Couldn't have been done without @jompop_kiatphontip @bad_kiatphontip_217 that night. It was a long night.
