Last weekend we volunteered at the Lyle Center! The Lyle Center at Cal Poly Pomona, was founded in 1994, is dedicated to promoting a sustainable future where people live in safe, healthy environments. It focuses on developing regenerative ecological, social, and economic systems that support both present and future needs. Located on campus, the Center aims to bring together students, experts, policymakers, and community members to drive environmental change. It offers an interdisciplinary education, including a Master of Science in Regenerative Studies and an undergraduate minor, with faculty from various departments contributing to its programs. We thank them for being so welcoming and allowing us to help give back to our environment as well as our CPP community, can’t wait to go back!!! @lylecenter

A glimpse of our Day of Service at the Lyle Center last week 🌱🪨 Throughout September, we’ve been reflecting on what service means to us and the “why” behind the work we do. Our time at the Lyle Center gave us the opportunity to experience firsthand what our partner sites have to offer and connect more deeply with the spaces we serve. From weeding and mulching to rock hunting and creating herb bundles, we had the chance to care for and support the Lyle Center grounds while learning along the way. Thank you to the Lyle Center for welcoming our cohort and giving us the opportunity to connect and grow together. 💫 #collegecorps #calpolypomona #communityservice

It was such a joy working with the incredible students and lovely faculty at @cppla (and @cppenv) to edit, tend, and tweak the foraging gaggle at the @lylecenter. Such a delightful time of full-scale experimentation and exploration. Can’t wait to watch this garden evolve! And thank you Rennie Tang, Nina Briggs, and Lorena Garcia for making this happen, and for being such generous hosts! Let’s do this again SOON @wagonlandscaping and @terremoto_landscape!

Three award-winning firms. Three days of building. One opportunity to learn from some of the most innovative voices in landscape architecture. This week, students in LA3111L-08 are working alongside practitioners from TERREMOTO, HILLWORKS, and WAGON LANDSCAPING in a hands-on design-build workshop at the Lyle Center. Finish the week with a public conversation featuring all three firms on September 24 at 4 p.m. in the Building 7 Atrium. Don't miss this chance to connect with internationally recognized designers and explore new approaches to making landscapes. Thirty-five years ago, this site was a landfill. Today, the John T. Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies at @calpolypomona is a living laboratory for regenerative design. When its original wood facade began failing, the replacement needed to meet Southern California’s strict wildfire requirements without compromising the center’s environmental mission. The solution: MOSO® Bamboo Thermo. Class A fire-rated, WUI listed, rapidly renewable, carbon-storing, and engineered for long-term exterior performance. The result is the largest MOSO® bamboo siding project in the United States, with a low-maintenance facade backed by a 25-year warranty. A regenerative building, wrapped in a regenerative material. A huge thank you to the partners who made it happen:
Architect: @idsgroupinc
Installer: Chalmers Construction Services
Distribution: @boisecascade and Nichols Lumber

A few apple seedlings today shape how we grow tomorrow. 🍎🐛🌳 This spring, CPP community volunteers planted 210 apple seedlings at the @lylecenter. While 150 trees will eventually be used for cider production, the remaining 60 trees make up the Apple Library. This living laboratory of 25 apple varieties is an investment in the future of CPP and SoCal, creating interdisciplinary learning opportunities and allowing students and faculty to study the apples for years to come. “It really is an experiment about what will succeed in SoCal. We’re always told that we don't have enough chill to grow apples, and the experiment here (at the Lyle Center) is set up to test whether that’s really true.” - Andrew Wilcox, associate dean of @cppenv Learn more via the 🔗 in bio.
