After receiving over 80 applications for the role we had the almost impossible task of choosing 5 young Black/ Black mixed people to be our next Cultural Leaders!

After reading through the applications, holding a day of interviews and deliberations we are proud to welcome our new Cultural Leaders below:

Thomas Kenechi is an 18-year-old actor and poet whose work combines intricate wordplay with vivid sensory imagery to explore themes of social change, love, and division. A two-time consecutive Roundhouse Poetry Slam finalist, he has performed on stages across England, captivating audiences with performances that are both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant. Through his poetry, Thomas seeks to spark reflection, challenge perspectives, and connect people through shared human experiences.

Lynelle is a multidisciplinary creative and digital marketer from North London with four years’ experience across entertainment, culture and the arts. Lynelle is a storyteller at heart, using creativity to build connections, tell meaningful stories and create spaces where people feel seen, represented and inspired. She’s a big believer in the power of community and creating the kind of spaces that have made a difference in my own life. Lynelle hopes to continue building the skills and experiences that allow me to create that same sense of connection for others and give back through my work.

Yours Truly Reverend will transform any space into his church, preaching truth to the choir through the power of storytelling. His artistry extends far beyond the borders of poetry or battle rap;

@poeticunity (Tupac Special) ~ An amazing night for many reasons! 💫🎶✨

•First time I performed at a Poetry Open Mic. One of my 2026 resolutions was to get back into spoken word. I did some stuff over the last few years for @officialstepnow or at events with @smallgreenshoots, @adaeze_friends , @flownetworking and @elevateyoursound_

I also got to do a lot more this year with getting back into properly through @crossword_lyric and with EYS at @wired4music as well as @denisaa.wav show and for @vibrentarts with @chasetymusic

Also my first time with a full live band but it couldn’t have gone better and meet so many amazing and talented people! ⭐️

•First time attending a Poetic Unity event it was a long time coming, meeting @ragzcv and some of the team back in 2024.

I’ve wanted to get involved for a long time but with the dates not aligning and life happening that didn’t manage to happen until now!

• Icon @georgethepoet and @sulibreaks were the first poets I was introduced to from our era that I could look to as relatable role model and the fact he’s from the ends made it inspire me to dream so getting to meet and perform in front of him felt like a full circle moment! 🔄

I remember watching his videos back in school so it’s mad! 🤯😂

• Tupac is probably the artist I was most inspired by, he did everything from making music to being an activist, actor, poet and more he made such an impact in a short time.

But the thing that impacted me the most was his interviews and the way he spoke he was a revolutionary, with words still ringing true today.

He showed you could walk many different paths; still be hood and educated. A legend who inspired generations! 💎

My story:

I started poetry in year 4 for a task on Remembrance Day. Which I got good feedback for and I enjoyed expressing in that way so I kept writing.

I got to continue that at secondary in English and Drama with @thepasion plus performing at our leavers assembly (Maybe the oldest recorded piece I have) 😂

In secondary the highest grade I got was also in English mocks for Poetry (8C) and I loved studying the likes of Benjamin Zephaniah and John Agard.

It’s something I love will be sharing!
