Not that we aren’t obsessed with leftovers, but the best part of Thanksgiving is probably getting that exclusive Grandma lap time. Happy slow wags 💕 #tinkerpug #puggerloki #puglove #doggrandma #pugsofinsta #pugreels #dogreels @lynetteniequist

Had another great monthly catch up walk with these ladies. We all made a donation to the Anderson Human Wildlife Baby Shower - each of us dropping off fresh baked goodies for their event today.

There were sooooo many Red Trillium & White Violets on the wooded portion of the trail - but you will have to go out & view them for yourself.

What will you do to enjoy yourself today?

To the @theeconomist editors: are you really so desperate for a MAGA win you won’t back off on the ageism stuff? Pathetic POS. 🖕

Echoes the ageist/ableist October 2023 New Yorker cover. Last image. After photos of Roosevelt in a wheelchair and Biden riding a bike (not a golf cart) within the last year!

At this point, the man could be in an iron lung and people will still vote for him, because of his record, Supreme Court, Project 2025 …

And the ageist ads keep sucking. Another crap sponsored Instagram ad using raw ageism to sell a product. In this case, a deodorant soap, with the slogan, “Fresher with Age.”

Wanna sell a deodorant soap, fine, but to play on the insecurities and self-directed ageism of your target customer sucks! ("When Does Nonenal Production Start? Usually around age 40")

Seems like there must be a better way to market a deodorant soap, but likely not as effective as the "ew" angle.

Ageism gets a pass where racism will end a business. Can you imagine pitching a deodorant soap playing off stereotypical misconceptions of how people of different cultures smell?

Even an article titled "Old People’s Smell Is A Real Thing, But It’s Not Everyone’s Destiny" (topped off with an ageist photo) concludes:

"Mitro and co-authors speculate old person smell is only considered unpleasant in context. SOCIETIES WITH MORE REVERENCE FOR AGE might regard it differently."

While another study, titled, "The Smell of Age: Perception and Discrimination of Body Odors of Different Ages" found:

"There were significant differences in ratings of both intensity and pleasantness, where body odors from the Old-age group were rated as LESS INTENSE AND LESS UNPLEASANT than body odors originating from Young and Middle-age donors."

Just heard about the “Dress Like a 100-Year-Old” day where elementary school students celebrate their 100 day of school.

I found these images seriously disheartening to the point of being sickening, particularly in that teachers were dressing up in such ageist costumes.

Just google, you'll find hundreds of photos as well as websites selling the costumes, such as, halloweencostumes.com (search "100 Days of School Costume Ideas for Kids")," where the costume descriptions are an appalling catalog of ageist stereotypes:

"This senility-inducing set is super-fun and a little bit wacky. It comes with a grey wig set in pink curlers, as well as a blue floral shawl, and a flower clip. She may want to add some specs, a cane, gloves, or a purse full of hard candies to complete the look. Or she may want to practice working in a midday nap!"

Several articles from a few years ago called for actions to turn the day where little Krystal and Skylar look cute ridiculing senior citizens to one where kids can learn about ageism and ableism and the experiences and accomplishments (aka wisdom) of those much older vs seeing them as funny portents of a dehumanized future.

There's always some suburban mom who thinks we snowflakes just need to lighten up, but swap out ageist for racist+ costumes that ridiculed another race or religion, one would like to think heads would explode. (Then again ... 🙄)

Look up "Turn “Dress Like a 100-Year-Old Day” into action against ageism by Ashton Applewhite, thischairrocks.com

which references

“Dress Like a 100-Year-Old” Day: A Call to Action,” Jill Vitale-Aussem, Guestblogger, changingaging.org (lots of great comments)

and

“100 Days of School: A Wacky Celebration Goes Viral,” Christina A. Samuels, dweek.org , where the author addresses how ableist costumes are offensive to disabled kids.

I got to meet @lynetteniequist gorgeous baby Pippa this morning. Also got to walk four happy doggos in the sunshine with my bestie, and got some tips on fixing my moms house, and it's not nearly as bad as expected. It's been a good day. #puppies #coffee #sunshine

DNA tests showed Pip to be mostly pug/chihuahua (with some beagle and others)! She certainly has #puggerloki on leg reach and leaps though! #chugdog #pugdog #puppies #mischief #pugstagram #puglove #tinkerpug #dogwrestling

Clearly @jeanwoods7, 85, is a woman who knows herself well. She has such a truly unique sense of style, one that is so perfectly her, that it is timeless. Hard to peg. And certainly not copied!

I particularly love the second photo. I had to tweak it in Photoshop to get the full figure, and because the original was not square but what a great look I am style-smitten!

I'd love to find her male counterpart!

Thanks for turning me on to Jean @lynetteniequist!

The great photo of Jean, as well as many of the other great photos of superadults on this Instagram are here because I want to feature interesting people who ageists may never have the privilege of meeting because of their ill-informed, incurious attitudes.
