🌍❤️ @lynnadib @busahnedebendevarim #RouhiYemma #LynnAdib #TheoCeccaldi #ValentinCeccaldi SyrianMusic ArabicMusic TraditionalMusic EthnicMusic WorldMusic

Tarek Atoui’s incredible work is finally here! For his largest composition to date, Atoui transforms the Turbine Hall into a visceral sonic experience, building on decades of collaboration with artisans, researchers, engineers and musicians from around the world.   Forming an interwoven structure of curious objects, the custom-built instruments are reimagined beyond their conventional uses; traditional shengs and mouth organs from China and Southeast Asia are connected to a suspended bamboo structure, and operated by windshield motors. Bespoke Korean drums resound in intervals, played by mechanised mallets; giant 3D-printed horns made from sugar resin and bamboo dust play a deep hum that shakes you to the core; experimental textiles developed with Satoshi Kondo of studio Issey Miyake generate sound frequencies in response to wind currents; and microphones embedded within the installation sample sounds from the Turbine Hall and play them back into the space. All together, they compose an ever-evolving composition, where no two moments are the same. Bit biased, but I’d say this is the best Turbine Hall commission yet! Congratulations to the two amazing curators @nabilaanabi and @dinaakhmadeeva - unparalleled dedication, perseverance and skill! For me personally, returning to the Tate motherland with a different hat on, supporting Tarek throughout the development of the project through Vitamin Creative Space (@the_forking_paths), has been a pleasure and a privilege. Videos here capture some of yesterday’s late night performance. Truly breathtaking. More performances to come, check the schedule with Tate.

Lynn Adib and Modern Arabic Music Follow: @lynnadib Stepping into music with the polyphonic hymns of the Notre-Dame-de-Damas Choir in the historical streets of Damascus, Lynn Adib specialized in jazz studies by turning her route to the National Conservatory of Paris, one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Europe. She stands out as one of the most innovative vocals of her generation by kneading the traditional Arabic rhythms of the geography she was born in with the free improvisation of Western jazz. The “Bedouin Burger” duo, which she formed by joining forces with the pioneering Lebanese musician Zeid Hamdan, flawlessly brings Bedouin melodies together with electronic infrastructures. This revolutionary project is a bold musical manifesto that carries the local and nomadic spirit of the Middle East to global dance floors. By not limiting her musical expression to a single geography, the artist has put her signature on borderless collaborations with internationally visioned musicians such as Bojan Z, Robinson Khoury, and Matthieu Chedid (-M-). In her interviews, she states that she sees these projects as a powerful communication bridge to shatter the prejudices about the Middle East and to prove the true cultural richness of her geography to the world. Lynn Adib conveys her cultural heritage in a multidimensional way not only with notes but also through interdisciplinary art and fashion projects like “The Elephant in the Room” which she realized with the Lebanese designer Salim Azzam. She defines her music as an endless learning process that adapts the weight of ancient traditions to the speed of the modern world and invites the listener to discover the hidden beauties of the Middle East. #ammehizmetimusic #LynnAdib #BedouinBurger #ZeidHamdan #ArapCazı
