Dream weavers! Thank you for taking the time to connect in a little creative play and mindfulness at yesterday‘s ARTDROP at @mettleworks
Chelmsford really does have the best creative community and I’m so proud to be part of it!

These are from my recent ‘Southend Strangers’ project. The project pairs strangers from different backgrounds to create portraits that celebrate connection, in locations meaningful to the participants.

You can visit the exhibition at Chalkwell Hall (within Chalkwell Park, Southend), open throughout June on weekdays, 10am to 5pm, and on Saturdays 6th and 13th June, 11am to 4pm. This coincides with Metal’s Essex Writers House event at the same location.

The two ‘strangers’ who met for this portrait are Lynn (@lynnexcellart), a multi-disciplinary deaf artist, and Max, a 12-year-old scout from Southend. Lynn chose the beach in Southchurch as her recent work has involved creating basketweave and clay vessels for seashells, and Max chose his scout hall.
.

The project was commissioned by Metal’s (@metalsouthend @metalcultureuk) citizen-led panel for Artist Ideas to Disrupt Loneliness — part of The Unlonely City, a long-term arts programme exploring creative ways to disrupt loneliness and foster connection.

Concrete Canvas, Chelmsford’s street art festival may be over for another year but our fabulous ConCan themed exhibition is still up for a few more days.

The exciting exhibition, sponsored by Chelmsford For You, showcases a diverse collection of works created by talented local artists who have featured in this unique festival.

Now in its 3rd year, Concrete Canvas pushes the boundaries and challenges traditional notions of art in public space. Pick up a map in @artistsatthemeadows to check out this year’s new murals.
