Mason Bell is a Bad Bad Man.

Pitch grading tells you what a pitch is.
It does always tell you what a pitch does to a hitter.
That distinction is pitcher-ability.

Mason Bell lives from the Kova Sports College Live Day. Mason had a very successful showing, and his arsenal might explain why

SI: +14 to 17” horizontal break, heavy arm side
SL: -8 to -10” horizontal break, hard glove side
CH: -1” IVB, 16” horizontal (not shown in this footage)
Two pitches moving in opposite directions off the same arm slot is a foundation. However stop there, and hitters eventually catch up because they only have one decision to make.
Mason’s changeup is the outlier that makes the rest of it work. It mirrors the sinker’s horizontal profile closely enough to share a tunnel out of the hand, and separates late in the vertical plane with meaningful Velo change ultimately leading to missed barrels.

Understand what is actually being measured here. The numbers describe shape. Mason outperforms his metrics because he owns both halves of high level pitching. Elite command, and tunneling between all the arsenal that gives the hitter no early information to work with.
My two cents? Grade your pitches individually. Train them as a system.

DM REMOTE to start.
