Post-traumatic tattoos can carry deep and powerful symbolism. They often serve as a form of personal healing, transformation, or reclaiming of one's body and story after trauma. Here are some common meanings they may hold:

1. Survival – A reminder that the wearer has endured and survived a difficulty, like war, abuse, illness, or a traumatic event.

2. Resilience and Strength – A symbol of inner strength and the ability to overcome adversity.

3. Memory and Tribute – Honoring a lost loved one, a life-changing event, or a past version of oneself.

4. Closure or Catharsis – A way to process grief, pain, or guilt and create a sense of closure or acceptance.

5. Control and Empowerment – Reclaiming control over one's body, especially for those who have experienced physical or emotional violation.

6. Transformation – A symbol of rebirth, change, or growth, often incorporating imagery like phoenixes, butterflies, or broken objects mended with gold (like kintsugi).

7. Reminder or Anchor – A visual anchor to stay grounded or motivated, some use phrases like “Still Here."
