Paper tags inserted in graded slabs? 😳

I just watched a Tesla fly during a demo of their next car, yet we’re still putting paper labels on premium graded card slabs. And asking collectors to pay $59.99 🫣

I think it’s time to rethink the slab design, especially $59.99 is the asking price. What do our collectors out their feel about the price vs value at the moment?

I’d love to see more companies incorporate engraved card information, similar to what @taggrading has done.

And maybe it’s time to move those oversized company logos away from the front and let the cards themselves be the centerpiece.

@rareeditionco created an incredible slab, and so does @m1ntaverse

Grading cards is part of the hobby, but so is appreciating the slab itself. Choosing companies that focus on design, innovation, and creating a memorable experience for collectors should be part of that process.

The card should be the star, not the slab company.

Collectors Collect.
And most of all, Collectors deserve more respect!

We found Oil Can’s card at The Top of the Steps Baseball Cards… and gifted it back to him. Everyone loves Dennis and you can tell that he truly feels it.

Stay tuned for a special surprise for Kenney, the owner of Top of the Steps Baseball Cards🙏

That night, the whole shop at The Northern Hobby Den ripped boxes of 1987 Topps and 1990 Upper Deck, looking for his cards. In the end, it was the 1989 Topps Dennis Boyd card that we found earlier that day that he signed… and it was gifted back to him.

If you’re ever driving through Newport, Vermont, stop in at The Northern Hobby Den and say hi to Vaughn. This place is just like Cheers! Where everyone knows your name.

He converted his cigar shop into a card shop!

Located in Newport, Vermont, The Northern Hobby Den has such a homey feel. The owner, Vaughn, has cultivated an incredible community.

Plus, Oil Can Boyd showed up and we all ripped packs searching for his cards.

Stay tuned for Part 2!

Is this Michigan’s most underrated card shop?

30,000 people came to the Appleumpkin Festival in this small Michigan town of Tecumseh, MI and the card shop seemed to be what you would see in a big city, not in a small town.

- Jordan Grails, Messi Grails graded by @m1ntaverse, Unlimited Vintage and New Wax of everything you could think of, Old and New era Pokémon Grails from Crystal Lugia to Bubble Mew, new Riftbound product.

- Ring also did massive renovations to their shop before the festival to have all of their insane inventory on display. They also have their own products, including new offset top loaders and a top loader binder.

This is your sign to go to a new card shop 👀

This card show defines the Hobby.

The Northern Vermont Hobby Fanfest Card Show in Derby, Vermont is truly something special. It was unlike any show I’ve been to. It felt like home.

Everyone buys, sells, and trades with each other, swaps stories about their favorite sports moments and bonds over the history of the players they love. It seems like everyone knows everyone by name, and none of it would be possible without Vaughn from Northern Hobby Den. If there is one word I could use to describe him, it would be: thoughtful. This is someone who you want to see succeed in the industry and he has created an absolutely awesome community here. Stay tuned for some great moments from his card shop and today’s show!

And Oil Can Boyd? He was incredibly engaging, full of life and genuinely loves his fans. It was a pleasure spending time with him.

There was something different about Stadium Club in the early ’90s.

The photography felt huge. Clean. Almost like you were looking at a magazine cover instead of a trading card.

No over-designed borders. No clutter. Just incredible photos of the biggest stars in the game.

And then you saw that gold foil Member’s Choice crest at the top.

That little piece of gold told you immediately:

This one was different.

That was the magic of cards like this. The design was simple enough to let the photo do all the work, but the foil treatment gave it that extra feeling of rarity and importance.

And when the player was Michael Jordan?

You knew you had something special.

The funny thing is, we’ve spent decades making cards louder, shinier, more complicated, and more limited…

…but some of the best cards ever made were simple.

Great photography.
A clean design.
A little gold foil.
And the greatest player in the world.

Sometimes that was all you needed.

Forgotten Cardboard.
The cards you forgot you loved.

We’re hauling to Northern Hobby Den! 🚚

Peak foliage season hit Maine, the leaf peepers rolled in and we had no idea every vehicle in town would be booked this week. Home Depot had our back with their last 12-foot box truck!

Huge thanks to the guys at the Home Depot in Portland, Maine for the excellent customer service. It was awesome ripping some packs with them at the front desk.

Should be a beautiful drive. Can’t wait to see everyone at the shop!
