The holiday season is usually an outwardly cheerful one, with twinkly lights and colorful decorations appearing in store displays or around our own homes. Holidays are a chance to gather with family, honor cherished traditions, and show our loved ones how much they mean to us.
But this idyllic portrait isn’t the reality for all of us. A survey by the American Psychological Association noted that 38% percent of respondents felt more stressed around the holidays, while in another survey, a whopping 66% reported feelings of loneliness owing to the holiday season. So those of us who experience difficult feelings at this time of year can take comfort in knowing we’re certainly not alone.

I’d love your opinions:
Here are a few images from my feed that I’m considering auctioning for charity - spectacular @swinton.tilda with a falcon on her wrist, @bjork blowing a raspberry, @coreymylchreest looking dreamy, an original proof of @xtina from the Stripped shoot - which other images do you think I should put up for auction?

Together we can saves lives.
I’d like to build up enough money with these auctions to free a village of people who are living in brutal slavery right now. It’s been done many times by @voices4freedom - now is our chance. Anyone winning a print auction will get a tax credit for a charitable donation AND a big beautiful print, or original proof. Please check the Giving Tuesday link in my bio for more info on V4F.
Let’s help some people find their freedom.
Thanks as always to the amazing talented teams that made these photos possible!

These people are slaves.

#FreedomFriday - I'm trying something, and I'd love your opinions. I've just come back from India where I work with @Voices4Freedom, an NGO that helps people free themselves from slavery - I've been working with them for 6 years now. It takes $40,000 to completely free a village - that's roughly 150 people, seniors to infants, that will come out of brutal forced labor and become documented, free, self sufficient and educated over the course of three years. (If you'd like to learn more about this process, check the link in my bio.)

Let me be clear. These people live under the threat and often the fact of violence without respite. They are beaten, raped and killed with no repercussions. This abuse has gone on for as long as the caste system has existed - that's over 3000 years. Global studies show that there are 18 million people enslaved in India, most of them in debt bondage slavery but also sex slavery and as household slaves. It's an endless, hopeless cycle - thousands are born into it.

Voices4Freedom is helping these people come to freedom, one village at a time. I believe that we can free a village together - I'd like to auction off prints to build up enough money to make it happen. Anyone winning an auction for one of these prints will get a tax credit for a charitable donation from V4F. So tell me - what images here on my feed would you most like to see in an auction?
Let's help some people find their freedom.

Happy Giving Tuesday! Every person shown here is a former slave that came to freedom with help from @voices4freedom - so happy, lucky and grateful to witness it! There are over 50 million slaves on the planet right now - no one is free until everyone is free. Click the Giving Tuesday link in my bio to learn more about freeing slaves and be a part of our mission to end slavery. Nothing is more joyful than freedom! #givingtuesday #freetheslaves #voices4freedom #freedomfighter #endhumantrafficking #girlgaze #femalephotographer

When I entered Valyou Furniture’s Valentine’s Day Contest, I didn’t think for a minute that I would win. So imagine my surprise when I did. I’ve never won anything in my life. Thank you, @valyoufurniture for this beautiful, comfortable sectional. It really fits my laid back California style. I couldn’t be happier!🎉💕
