Record 168 is Michael Feuerstack & Associates - Singer Songer (2014)

This is a really good album that features a long list of incredible musicians. Each of the songs features a different vocalist singing one of his songs, which just makes for such an enjoyable listen.

I knew of Michael Feuerstack from when he went by Snailhouse, and when I came across this album I knew I wanted to pick it up, I had no idea at the time that there were all of the guest vocalists.

Lizzie Powell has been a musical hero of mine for many years, and continues to be one of my favourite all time songwriters, guitarists, and singers. I’m incredibly lucky and honoured to play drums on this new Land of Talk album. Playing music with them, and getting to know them better while recording last winter was a real life highlight. Also, having one of my all time best buds and musical collaborator / hero Michael Feuerstack on bass really brought the experience into dream territory. The first single is available now. You can listen if you call this number. It’s a real number, with real good music in the other end.

Yesterday was the three-month anniversary of my novel Temporary Palaces hitting bookstore shelves! Thanks so much to everyone who has bought the book, requested or got it out of the library, came to one of my events, told a friend about it, talked to me about it, or wrote me a nice message! You all really turned up and I'm so grateful for the love.

And thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts who funded my Microgrant application supporting my tour and promotional activities around the book! Living in Nova Scotia, where provincial Conservatives have slashed arts funding, the vital work of the Canada Council is more important than ever and I'm grateful for the support!

To celebrate here are a few more out-takes from tour :)

Record 93 is Community Theatre - Northern Register (2014)

I picked this album up a few years back, its an interesting collection of songs by some fantastic songwriters.

In 2013, Shotgun Jimmie, Steve Lambke, Richard Laviolette, Ian Kehoe, Michael Feuerstack, Mathias Kom, Construction and Destruction, Wax Mannequin, and Kyle Cashen were all invited to write and collaborate on all of these new songs, and this record came out of that.

On their third album, House Music, Bell Orchestre captures the impulsive, connective, mysterious poetics of musical invention happening in realtime. Both the album, and its visual counterpart which was directed by band member Kaveh Nabatian, unfold as one long piece, a recorded-then-sculpted improvisation that vastly expands their work, coalescing classical and electronic instrumentation in the creation of genre-defying musical worlds.

Following a run of screenings at festivals in 2021, watch the full performance film, celebrating 5 years of House Music, on the Erased Tapes YouTube channel via the link in our bio.
