Four seasons ago, we started bringing 8th graders into the varsity program as team managers. It’s become a tradition thanks to the great groups that keep it going.

We’ve always been lucky to have strong young women in our program; great leaders who set the tone and give the next generation something to look up to. True models of what it means to be a strong woman in this sport and in the world. And that’s really what this has become about. Not just helping out at practice, but building something that lasts through new generations.

B and Trim are the perfect examples of it. I can still picture them as 8th graders (in this photo), hanging around, soaking it all in, smiling, laughing and looking up to players like Claire Ramsey, Audrey Walkington, Reegyn Cady, Mya Carnevale, Ava Ruster, Kenzie Lockwood, Sarah Pluff, and more. Fast forward, and now they’ve worked their way into key roles on varsity, and more importantly, they’ve become the ones the younger girls are watching and learning from. Couldn’t be more proud of them.

And we didn’t stop there. We’ve added sixth and seventh graders coming in as ball girls too. More energy, more smiles, more young players feeling like they’re part of something early on, and more opportunities for our players to be positive role models for the next generation. Seeing sixth graders on the sidelines with their big sisters on the varsity team is truly something special. Sister hugs between a sixth grade ball girl and her varsity sister coming off the field is so cool to watch.

Yes, the extra hands help (water, cones, balls, pinnies, etc) but that’s not why this matters. This is about building up girls in sports, creating connections across ages, providing strong female role models, and continuing to grow the game in our community. It’s about showing younger players they belong here long before they ever wear the jersey.

As coaches, we might lay the foundation, but the players are the ones who build something special on it. Appreciate you all so much!
