What a day !! What a fabulous team !!
It was an honour & a privilege to be invited to showcase @twisting_vintage at the annual BERRIMA DISTRICT ARTS SOCIETY portrait competition luncheon held at @centennialvineyards . This year’s celebrity personality was @creucassel . Craig has been instrumental in highlighting what a wasteful society we have become and the clothing industry is one of the major culprits . At @twisting_vintage my emphasis has always been the quality of clothing from past eras as opposed to the shallow and deliberately transient garments we are encouraged to devour with relentless monotony .
Wearing garments from past eras doesn’t mean one has to be a slave to any particular style . Quite the opposite . This fashion parade was styled to show how quality vintage clothing has as much relevance on today’s high street if not more than when it was first designed .

Always finding something that I’d forgotten about in my stash 😀. The need for a men’s tie sent me scrambling through my “stash”! See what turned up 🤔👌. It wasn’t the article of choice for the wearer but boy am I glad I found it . #vintagetie #chaneltie #belt #chanel #tiestyle

Many of you may not realize that one of my first loves is sewing 🪡. Occasionally I find a gem that is considered without worth or redemption… beyond repair and destined for the rubbish bin.
That happened this week 😒. This beautiful midnight blue silk organza evening skirt from ‘80’s/‘90’s Sydney designer @leong.nelson Nelson Leong, was languishing in the throw out pile at a local thrift store. It became my challenge to repair & restore. In the hours it took me to accomplish this, I had no other company than the Autumn birdsong outside my window and the gentle nurturing strains of music from my favorite radio station @abcclassic This all might sound dull , but like many of you, my world is filled with anxieties, sadness and also much joy. So to bring a simple garment back to her former glory gives satisfaction with the sweet, small successes we can achieve in life xx #sustainablefashion #simplepleasures #repairandrestore #mending #sewingandalterations

Thrift shopping for vintage pieces can be rewarding ! A much loved beauty, this pure silk organza 3 layered skirt from 1980’s Sydney designer @leong.nelson was almost certainly destined for landfill 🫢😳. I just had to restore it !!!
This is part 1 .
Identify the problem areas.
I’m this case there were tears in the hem on all 3 layers and severe separation issues of the layers at 2 points of the waist. Watch the next reel to see how it comes together!
