Cross country family road trip complete! MOST. FUN. EVER. This is a little update for @jljefflewis and all the chumps that were guiding me along the way in my DM’s! We saw everything from LA to MAINE… the kids were phenomenal, @shappyshaps held down the driving and the plans and the minivan karaoke, bonvoy points were racked up, the KIA was 🔥🔥🔥, World Cup matches were watched in big crowds and little pubs, we met a million people, turns out a lot of people watch The Bear and hunting wives 😂, we hugged trees and swam in hot springs, saw dear friends in their natural habitats, saw a track meet and a rodeo and visited the field of dreams and rode ATVs and climbed rocks and took boat rides and saw monuments and Vera counted 100 different animals and Albee played hoops in 12 different states, we somehow avoided bad weather AND bad lettuce, and we miss it all already. bottom line is: I CANT WAIT TO DO ANOTHER. 10/10 no notes.

Pt. 2 of Wonderful Winter Music Story (ICYMI, posted pt. 1 yesterday)

I’ve zero idea what to tell my son; it was as if the @jdmcphersonpix miracle his sister had experienced was completely inverted for him. What good could possibly come from this? What lesson? I was at a total loss beyond the equivalent of “Hey, sorry this sucked, but at least everything doesn’t always suck.”

Incredibly, the boy kept listening to “Socks” every day; my fears of a thenceforth dreadful association were unfounded.

After Xmas I was still cosmically bothered on my son’s behalf. How could I possibly turn this around?

Meanwhile, I personally had a very, very cool thing happen: my man @CoryChisel asked me to be part of a small choir of background singers for @FountainsofWayneofficial’s New Year’s Eve concert at The Vic in Chicago. Kidding me? I’d been an FoW fan since @Chrisinportugal put “Sink to the Bottom” on a mix CD for me in high school. Way too wild!

I get to the venue for soundcheck. Turns out the choir is Cory, me, & this hip couple from Chicago, John and Dani—nice people, but pretty much just got introduced before jumping into vocal rehearsals with Chris Collingwood and @GinaRomantini. Absolutely righteous experience.

We broke away back to the hotel for a spell and got some food/drinks there. I end up sitting next to John, and he asks me what other kind of music stuff I do, and we’re just off to the races: turns out we have all these similar tastes for the good rock’n’roll, and have a pretty wild number of mutual friends. From first meeting until this way-too-fun chat, it’s been about two hours. Only at this point does he mention, casually as all get-out, that he is the touring drummer for one JONATHAN DAVID MCPHERSON. And Yes, he was at the ill-fated Madison gig, Yes he remembers the unceremonious cancellation, Yes he and the band were totally bummed.

My mind is absolutely blown—all the more so when he tells me to get him my address so he can mail up something cool for my son. How in the... was there actually gonna be a cool ending to this “Socks” debacle after all?

I cannot even begin to tell you how much fun this shoot was. The greatest feeling is the ability to create incredible things with incredible people. Great job to director Cory Chisel. From paper to picture there was never a doubt that we wouldn’t capture this feeling. Honored to do it again! Thank you Stephanie Long for a never ending belief in this project

Well, Happy New Year, folks. Being a background singer for Fountains Of Wayne @fountainsofwayneofficial certainly isn’t what I had on my NYE bingo card, but there I was… On stage with my fiancé, wonderful new pals, and an all-time favorite band. Thanks to everybody who came out to the big @jdmcphersonpix Christmas tour. Made a long December away from home extra special. I open up a new year not knowing much of what’s in store… and that’s super exciting. Making the resolution to dive headfirst into things that frighten me - like singing on a stage without an instrument! There’s one down (I’m also making the resolution to never again bring only vans slip-ons on a 3 week tour in December…). Larger update soon (2025 was insane). Hope 2026 brings you tons of love & joy!

Few cities on earth feel like this one. There’s no working when you’re here. You’re just lucky. There’s no space between the other worlds and the world in front of you. There are friends that you’ve known for a decade plus- then having not seen them in a few beats- it’s like you just went out for a smoke at set break. Maybe there’s a spell over the place. Or maybe it’s the only place free of one. Thank you New Orleans. Every single time.
