Ever since I was 6 years old, I’ve dreamed of hunting a zebra. Something about their unique stripes and the way they blend into the terrain they call home has always made them so fascinating to me.

I know this may be controversial to some, but there’s something to be said about conservation and the opportunity to give an old animal a purpose rather than letting it suffer a slow, painful death from disease or predation.

This hunt meant a lot more to me than just squeezing a trigger. It was a childhood dream finally coming true, and it’s something I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. Being able to admire its rug for years to come will always remind me of this experience.

I truly am blessed that God gave me the opportunity to travel to Africa and make this dream a reality. Having some of my closest friends there to share such a meaningful experience with me means more than they’ll ever know.

Thank you, Africa, for all of the memories, the blessings, the adventures, the laughs, the amazing food, and the incredible people we met along the way. Most importantly, thank you God, for watching over us throughout this entire trip and bringing us all back to the US in one piece.

The Waterbuck 🇿🇦

When we first arrived at hunting camp, I got my first look at a group of immature waterbuck. They were a lot bigger than I ever imagined, and I knew right away I wanted to hunt one.

A few days into the trip, we loaded up the truck and headed to one of the mountainous properties our outfitter leased. Between the terrain and the scenery, I felt like I was right back home in Montana, and I was fired up to chase one of these giants.

As we crested a hill, I spotted a herd. My PH looked them over and said, “That’s a big male…”

Then he said, “That’s a BIG F*CKING male.”

We tried to get him stopped for a shot, but he turned the wrong way. Eventually, he gave me a 270-yard opportunity, and after the shot, he piled up inside 100 yards.

I knew he was a good one, but I REALLY knew it when I looked over and saw that I was shaking just as much as my PH was. He told me it takes a pretty special animal to get him shaking when someone else is pulling the trigger.

He was estimated to be just over 29” tall and was one of the biggest they’d seen in a long time.

I’ve got one more animal left to share, but this one was easily my favorite of the entire trip. 🇿🇦

Blue Wildebeest ✅🇿🇦

Made a stalk on this group and got within 40 yards. I sat in the scope for 10 minutes waiting for him to step out around a bush. He was grunting and stomping at us as he knew danger was near. I made a move to the other side of our cover and had an amazing opportunity inside of 50 yards on this giant animal!

This is Mac! He will be attending Central Michigan University, where he plans to major in Osteopathy on a Pre-Med track. He will also be receiving a scholarship where he will be furthering his athletic career as a wrestler! Mac participated in cross country, track, soccer, and wrestling throughout high school. He was also a member of the student council. His favorite memories were from competing with his teammates on the wrestling team, where he became the 3rd wrestler in BRHS history to place at states all 4 years. Good luck at CMU, fire up Chips!
