a few weeks ago, T & I rented a van, drove around southern oregon and northern california, & had ourselves a fun ass adventure together 💛☀️

we woke up before the sun to soak in the coolest natural hot springs we’ve ever seen. we walked on black sand beaches. we watched romantic, hazy shades of color dance around as the sun went down. we parked our van down by rivers. we slept with the sound of water cruising by. we played with a river newt, took a detour to urgent care & learned oregon newt safe, california newt bad. we ate fresh seafood. we ate frozen pizza. we saw crazy sea stacks & some earth views we hadn’t ever seen before. we lay in the dirt & looked at stars framed by big, beautiful, ancient redwood trees. we found local dive bars & befriended a traveling circus troupe. we napped with views of the ocean. we drank wine & caught a vibe. we visited the lost coast & stayed in a tower for the night in the actual middle of nowhere. we rode a train to a bar in the redwoods. we laughed so much & we had funnnnnnnnn & we are definitely going back.

the last photo of T is from day last. california changed him 😂

Five days on the Wild and Scenic Yampa River.

Five days of sleeping under the stars. Exploring caves inhabited by the Fremont People 2,000 years ago. Drinking and swimming in the same molecules of water that passed through their kidneys.

Five days of making canyon walls echo in the same way they must have echoed back then, feeling a closeness to the earth and its wilderness they indeed must have also felt.

In 50 or 100 years, our children and our grandchildren will not look back and say, “Gosh Dad I wish you woulda made more money” or “Dammit Grandpa I wish you woulda spent more time workin’ down at the data center or more time shipping packages for Bezos.”

They will look back at pictures much like these and ask, “Grandpa, why didn’t you take care of this?”
