Even if you take a really long run-up, you’re not going to be able to listen to *everything* that’s released each week. Data can help identify emerging talent in the firehose (and before they blow up for real).

If you’re looking for new Australia-based artists to check out, I use data to surface artists who might not be on your radar yet. These are the acts that critics & tastemakers are backing right now and who you should make certain are on your must-follow list this week.

You can get this (plus more of the detail) in your inbox every Sunday by subscribing to the newsletter via the Essential Artists linkinbio x

Week 42 on the @musicrowmagazine Country Breakout Chart has us ready to “Drink Things Through,” leave the “Blacktop Blues” behind, refuse to be led around by a “String By” anyone and make one “Last Call For Trouble.” 🤠🍻🔥

65 — Drink Things Through — @joshrossmusic
71 — Blacktop Blues — @thejacksondean
76 — String By — @mackgeigermusic
77 — Last Call For Trouble — @lucietigermusic

This week’s four new Top 80 entries are serving up drinks, blacktop, heartstrings and just enough trouble to keep things interesting!

Can someone please explain how a voice THAT deep comes out of one bloke?! Because I’m still trying to work it out! 🤣🎶

I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Mack Geiger perform at Strummingbird Sunny Coast, and bloody hell, what a performance!

Now, I love a good country voice, particularly one with a bit of depth to it, but I genuinely wasn’t prepared for Mack.

The moment he started singing, I was hooked.

That deep, rich voice is something else entirely. The sort of voice that makes you stop, listen and wonder whether he’s got a subwoofer hidden somewhere in his boots! 😂

And it wasn’t just his voice. There was something so natural about the way he performed. No need for anything over the top, just great music, genuine talent and a bloke who looked completely at home on stage.

I was there with my camera, as usual, trying to capture the performance while actually remembering to enjoy it myself. Sometimes I get so caught up taking photos that I forget to put the bloody thing down!

But Mack was one of those performers who really made an impression.

I’ve been fortunate enough to see some incredible artists lately, and I can confidently say @mackgeigermusic was a 10/10 for me.

I’d happily travel to see him perform again, and considering the kilometres I already rack up chasing live music, that’s probably a dangerous statement to make! 😂

Seriously though, what a voice, what a talent and what a fantastic performance.

Mack, you’ve definitely gained yourself another fan! ❤️

Has anyone else seen @mackgeigermusic live? And please tell me I’m not the only one who could listen to that deep voice all day!

Had a request to learn Mack’s ‘Pouring’ solo which seemed fitting since it’s been pouring all week 🌧️ Definitely not 100% and full credit to @astrojerry for an epic solo 🙌 #mackgeiger #pouring #guitarsolo #rainydays #pratleyguitars
