In 2019, I took my first trip to Big Bend with some friends from college. That trip introduced me to one of my favorite places on Earth, West Texas. And I discovered what Big Bend is….she’s magic. Wild magic.

Later that spring I went on a week long canoe trip down the lower canyons of the Rio Grande and we didn’t see another soul. No man-made structures, no wires, no nothing. Just a wild river and wild land. Everyday we paddled miles down the Rio to bird song and the sound of the west Texas wind.

In 2020, the week the world shut down- I was canoeing on the Rio in Boquillas canyon, unaware of the chaos outside of the huge canyon walls. We danced in the canyons, identified birds, counted bats, and swam in the muddy waters of the Rio Grande. It was our last week in our favorite place before we all went our separate ways - to new jobs, new states, new degrees.

In 2025, I came back to run Boquillas again but this time I brought my dad and sister along with friends old and new. This time, Boquillas canyon’s natural springs gave us a gift in a low water year, the Rio was a crystal clear blue. Again, we were surrounded by magic of the Rio Grande and Big Bend . . and I hope through this little collection of clips from the last 7 years, you can see the magic too.

This land, this state, this border, it is deeply misunderstood. It is lively and wild, but also vast and desolate. And despite the narrative surrounding it, less than 1% of all illegal border crossings occur here. We do not need a wall that requires tearing this landscape apart. We do not need floodlights, drones, or an increased Border Patrol presence in this park.

Laws are being ignored. Environmental protections are being thrown out. And for what? To build a wall through a landscape that already has a massive natural barrier?

The government is spending $1.7 billion to bulldoze a pristine desert landscape for a wall this area does not need!

This is border wall is horrific, heartbreaking and must be stopped. Protect Big Bend, protect the magic of this wild land and protect our national parks. If they can do this here, they can do it anywhere. #nobigbendwall

there’s a younger version of me that craved community so badly… you can imagine how grateful it makes me to see this come to life

don’t play small, don’t try to do it alone, and don’t live your entire life on your devices

I know you know that, just a friendly reminder 🫶🏼

we can’t wait to vibe stack w/ you again 🪩
