25 years after Sports Illustrated dubbed Tamir Goodman “The Jewish Jordan,” his son Matanel is now writing the next chapter.

What is Oligoarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis? It’s an autoimmune disease in which the body mistakenly attacks the lining of the joints, causing severe swelling, stiffness, and pain—at times making it impossible to move the affected joints without intense pain.

Just after high school, our (@judytgoodman ❤️) son @matanelgoodman_ was diagnosed with this disease. After months of blood work, pain, muscle loss, research, treatments, medications, and countless doctor appointments he is finally on the road to recovery, and we are incredibly proud to share that he has committed to play college basketball at Yeshiva University.

Matanel and our family would like to thank @yeshiva_university, Coach @elliotsteinmetz, and the entire staff for building such an incredible program and for giving Matanel the opportunity to live out his dream of playing college basketball.

We also want to thank all of our family, friends, teachers, doctors, coaches, and everyone who helped Matanel reach this moment. A very special thank you to his high school @himmelfarb_basketball coach and his coach at Hapoel Jerusalem @hapoelyouthjlm, @rachmimyona, for always believing in Matanel and for being the best mentor and coach since 7th grade. Thank you as well to Coach Harold Katz @coachk09 for his wisdom and love, and his trainer, @mc_elitehoops, for all of the hard work, encouragement, and support along the way.

In addition to playing at YU, Matanel hopes to help spread awareness about this disease, which many people have never heard of. For coaches and parents: if an athlete has prolonged swelling or unexplained pain, consider seeing a rheumatologist, not only an orthopedist.

And for athletes going through similar challenges: with the right treatment, determination, and hard work, it is possible to come back stronger than ever.

With God's help, we are rooting for Matanel to continue getting stronger and to be ready for the upcoming season.

Love and blessings to all — and Go YU Macs!

Special Thank You Coach @yoni.cohen75 ❤️
