I am voting NO on all WI
Amendments: Here's Why
WHAT ARE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS? Changes to the WI constitution created by the state congress that voters decide whether or not pass. Essentially, they are ways for voters directly to vote on changing a law.
WHY DO THEY MATTER? In our current system, it takes just one party is able to put this on your ballot (in this case, republicans). In our current system, it takes just one party is able to put this on your ballot (in this case, republicans).
AMENDMENT NUMBER ONE: About the Partial Veto
We're voting on the ability for the governor to veto parts of a bill (instead of only having the options of passing or vetoing a whole bill)
This passing would mean the governor would have to either pass or veto a whole budget at once, and means the governor couldn't counterbalance our (currently conservative) legislature.
MY VOTE: NO, AMENDMENT PROPOSED BY: REPUBLICANS
AMENDMENT NUMBER TWO: About Places of Worship
We're voting on the ability for the government to close "places of worship" during times of emergency (like the pandemic)
This specific bill would give a lot of power to places of worship, and would worsen our ability to mitigate the effects of public health emergencies.
MY VOTE: NO, AMENDMENT PROPOSED BY: REPUBLICANS
AMENDMENT NUMBER THREE: ABOUT DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
We're voting on a ban to gov. programs that give "preferrential treatment" to specific races/sexes. This is not a ban on discrimination of minority groups: that's already illegal. Instead, a "YES" vote could end affirmative action, many scholarships, and initiatives to help women, intersex individuals, and POC.
MY VOTE: NO, AMENDMENT PROPOSED BY: REPUBLICANS
FRIENDLY REMINDER: You can bring your phone into the polls with you, and google anything that would be helpful to you. These amendments are intentionally made to be confusing - but tools are out there to help you understand.
My Vote is My Voice. Bottom Line: I'm voting no.
