SHARE - À PARTAGER Ahead of an election year, it’s important to stay vigilant and not forget the corruption scandals of the past few decades. What role do you think haitians are playing in their demise ?

“Unfortunately, they find people within the country—Haitian actors in politics and business—who act as accomplices. That is to say, they agree with the colonial dynamic, the dynamic of domination that is being implemented in the country.” — Olrich Jean Pierre

Last week, we had the amazing privilege of conducting a virtual screening of the film, MADAN SARA, to the Eastvale community and the surrounding communities of the Inland Empire. After the screening, the discussion we had with the Co-Executive Producer, Lu Childs, led to insights about the role of a Producer and learning a couple of details about the political and economic history of Haiti.

FILM SCREENING 🇭🇹 🎥 University of Manchester’s Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies are putting on a screening of the documentary ‘Madan Sara’ by filmmaker Etant Dupain next Wed 25th March – come through! The screening will take place at Samuel Alexander Theatre from 17:00–18:30.

Synopsis: The women known as Madan Sara in Haiti work tirelessly to buy, distribute, and sell food and other essentials in markets through the country. Despite the obstacles faced by the women working in a sector that lacks investment, infrastructure and state assistance, the Madan Sara continue to be one of the most critical parts of the Haitian economy and of who we are as a country. The Madan Sara documentary tells the stories of these indefatigable women who work at the margins to make Haiti’s economy run. Despite facing intense hardship and social stigma, the hard work of the Madan Sara puts their children through school, houses their families, and helps to ensure a better life for generations to come. This film amplifies the calls of the Madan Sara as they speak directly to society to share their dreams for a more just Haiti.
