Say hello to some new faces and new roles!

Matt Schutz is our Development Director. Simply put, he helping spearhead our fundraising and donor relations to ensure the financial stability of the company.

Maddy Brown has also moved into the role of Literary Manager, where she leads the committee which selects the Next Draft scripts and oversees Avalanche’s dramaturgical efforts.

Anali Saucedo has joined the Avalanche team as our Artist Advocate, a vital position to ensure the safety and comfort of our collaborators.

Melanie Coffey, a member of the ensemble whose play Time is a Color and the Color is Blue was produced by Avalanche as our mainstage production last year, has taken over as our Grants Manager, and will help us secure the financial support we need to bring new work to the stage.

James Kelsey Nelson is new to the Avalanche team as our Marketing Manager, and will help amplify the work we’re doing throughout Chicago and beyond by assisting with messaging, communications, and promotion.

The Match is coming to a close for our 3-Month Spring Cohort 🥲💗

Check out what a few of our writers have to say about working with their dramaturg match and being part of the DDP Playwright Cohort. We will miss all of these incredible writers, and can’t wait to see where their plays go next. Stay tuned for more from our 6 and 12-Month cohort members very soon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Match is DDP’s dramaturg–playwright matching and script development process used to pair up dramaturgs and playwrights for extended development work. DDP’s 2026 Cohort introduction posts use a light purple theme with light blue and dark purple circle highlights throughout the graphics. This graphic contains photos of Ash and Maren, and a quote from Ash about their work with Maren. Ash is Persian and non-binary, wearing glasses, with wavy black hair streaming on one side past their ear, and a short manicured beard. Maren is a fat white femme with round blue glasses and a brunette pixie cut.
