POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This evening I headed to @little_bookroom for their Primary School Book Chat

‘But you don’t work in a primary school’ I hear you say….

No, I don’t, but I am a fan of the Your Next Read series of books and of @allisontaitwriter @maddymarabooks @jessesmess and @amelia_r_mellor

So I had a wonderful evening of fangirling and I couldn’t be happier 😊

I was so excited to finally meet @allisontaitwriter and @maddymarabooks IRL 🥳

Thanks for another wonderful event @little_bookroom

We started reading 5 mins each at bedtime to build some public speaking confidence.

I stopped by @bnoxfordvalley on Saturday and missed @jennilwalsh because we were at football but was able to snag a signed copy of #TheBugBandits 🪲for Miles so he was excited. Then I picked out #DragonGirls 🐉 book 2 by @maddymarabooks for Char

The Christmas Fuss in the Broken-Down Bus by Maddy Mara and Christopher Nielsen 🎅 🦘

“Will something go wrong? What a smart thing to ask! For things always do when you have such a task.”

That classic night before Christmas dilemma gets a self aware Aussie twist in this fun new, rhyming adventure!

There are holes in the sacks, sickness all around, and stormy skies looming. What will Santa do to make sure all the Christmas gifts are delivered on time?

With the help of a rusty old bus and the sweetest kind of Christmas magic, perhaps there’s still a way to save Christmas!

The Christmas Fuss in the Broken-Down Bus is a festive and fun story filled with adorable illustrations, plenty of Christmas cheer, and a Santa who refuses to give up on the most important night of the year.

Thank you to the team at @harperkidsau for our copy. 🎄 #thechristmasfussinthebrokendownbus #christmas #christmastime #picturebooks #bookstagram

The Christmas Fuss In The Broken-Down Bus by Maddy Mara & Christopher Nielsen

Published by @harpercollinsaustralia on September 29th

Tomorrow is Christmas and as you can see, Santa is ready, as ready can be.

Will something go wrong?

What a smart thing to ask!

For things always do when you have such a task...

A delightful new Christmas story told in a very Aussie way.... full of sick kangaroos, and lots of Aussie ingenuity from Santa.

Thanks to @harpercollinsaustralia for the review copy of this book

We love author visits and the past couple of weeks we have been spoilt with some incredible children's authors dropping in to sign copies of their books!

Why not bring the kids in these school holidays to choose their next read before enjoying a hot chocolate with the fam, all the while having the ocean as your background. Some signed editions are available for that extra special edition!

Back to school is in full swing. My finger is not on the Kid Lit pulse, but here’s what the kids have been up to.

My 8️⃣ year old loved THE SKULL 💀 by Jon Klassen. She read it cover to cover twice, once by herself and once with me. It’s delightfully spooky and darkly funny with stunning artwork. Shout out to Kelsey at @tidepoolbookshop for the rec. She also loved a book from Maddy Mara’s DRAGON GIRLS series. Now, she’s onto IVY & BEAN by Annie Barrows and YOU’RE THE BOSS, GRACIE WEI by Kristen Mei Chase.

My 🔟 year old’s top summer read was WONDER by R.J. Palacio. He is a reluctant reader and for him, the buy-in for WONDER was that he liked the movie and knew the story. He was also into creating his own story in the DIARY OF A WIMPY KID Do-it Yourself Book. Now he’s into a nonfiction series about disasters called I SURVIVED by Lauren Tarshis.

Quick note from a bookish parent with a reluctant reader kid: I have no clue what I’m doing, but I let him read whatever he’s willing to read. He’s a curious kid who likes storytelling, history, and how things work. He loves information. But this child is in perpetual motion. He loves football, baseball, distance running, and WWE. Sitting down long enough to sink into a book is tough. Can anyone recommend a good book about WWE? Because passion is passion.

TIGER TERROR (MAX BEAST 2)
By Maddy Mara @maddymarabooks

Ages 7 – 10

Ever since Max’s parents embraced van life, Max has gained a new perspective—literally! On their last stop to explore a sunken yacht, Max tangled with a boy named Hector. He ended up with Hector’s amulet that gave him the power to turn into a shark and stop a criminal gang. Now, while hiking past a native animal sanctuary as well as billionaire Benson Leech’s ranch—where he keeps illegal animals—Max spies Hector in the group. He knows he needs to protect the amulet from Hector’s nefarious plans and heads off on his own.

Max discovers a cave where he’s jumped by a ferocious tiger. As he’s trying to protect himself, Max feels the amulet “sinking into his skin.” In moments, Max transformed into a tiger! He was still wondering how he could protect his parents and the other hikers from the rogue tiger when a pack of wolves surrounds him. After Max chases them away, he finds the dead elk they had hunted.

Max takes the elk to the tiger as a peace offering and discovers that she has two cubs. Bounding away, Max finds Benson Leech’s ranch and overhears his plan to sell the cubs—even if it means shooting their mother Lena to recapture them. Max is just forming a plan to tell Lena when Hector appears, having followed him all along.

Only interested in making money, Hector betrays Max and Lena, and the four tigers are caged, awaiting the buyer who’s expected in 30 minutes. Will Max be able to free them all? Will Lena trust him? And what choice will Max make when his adversary Hector needs help? The surprise twists and heart-pounding action will keep readers flipping the pages until the compelling ending.

Thrills, peril, and life-altering decisions lurk around every corner in Maddy Mara’s TIGER TERROR that grabs both eager and reluctant readers and holds them enthralled with the combination of a likable protagonist, a compelling adventure, and relatable humor. Riveting illustrations by Khadijah Khatib place readers in pivotal scenes.
