Well… that was hard. ❤️

After all the lists, shopping, packing, favorite meals, saying goodbye to the animals, and two solid days of decorating her dorm room, we left Adie Grace in Lubbock and started the drive home without her.

So many emotions.

You spend all these years raising them, then suddenly question everything. Did I teach her enough? Did I prepare her? Will she make the right choices?

She won’t. None of us do. You just pray that everything you’ve poured into them has taken root.

She’s my last one, and I feel a little lost. I always wanted to be a mom. I know I wasn’t a perfect one, but it has been the greatest job and privilege of my life. Part of me feels like my job is done… but I don’t want it to be.

I still want her to need me, call me, ask my advice, and tell me the big things and the little things. Motherhood isn’t over. It’s just going to look different now.

Before leaving today, I really wanted to take her to church. Of all the churches in Lubbock, Redeemer kept coming up through random people back home. Then we learned Pastor Greg and their pastor were longtime friends. It felt like God reminding me He had already gone before us.

Then today’s message was Matthew 13, the seed and the soil… the SAME passage Greg preached a month ago. 🤣 Okay, God. I hear You.

Maybe that’s what this part of motherhood is. For years we plant, teach, pray, encourage and love them. Then one day we have to trust what has been planted and trust God with the growing.

My prayer is that she keeps seeking the Lord, stays in His Word, surrounds herself with people who lead her closer to Jesus, uses the gifts God gave her, and is a light wherever He places her.

I’m going to miss her. Sundays will be especially hard without hearing her beautiful voice leading worship. But I am so incredibly proud of her.

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence?” Psalm 139:7

Tomball feels really far away right now, but there isn’t a single mile between here and there where God isn’t with her.

She will always be my baby. And I will always be her momma. ❤️
