School’s in session. It’s Day 3 of Februllage and today’s prompt is school. I dug into a box of preschool art my now 25-year-old daughter created.

❄️ Will Enkhuizen be a winter wonderland this winter? Yes ✅ or No ❌ ? Dutch weather facts you shouldn’t miss in the caption! ⤵️

Dutch weather is known to be quite unpredictable 😅 Summers can be hot ☀️ and winters can be cold! Some fun Dutch winter weather facts:

❄️ Dutch winters are relatively mild compared to other northern European countries. The average temperature hovers around 2°C (36°F), but can dip below freezing during cold spells.

⛄️ Snow in the Netherlands isn’t guaranteed every winter. On average, the country experiences about 20-30 days of snow annually, but often it’s light and doesn’t stick around for long.

🌡️ The Netherlands sometimes experiences “koudegolf” (cold waves), where the temperature stays below freezing for at least five consecutive days. This can lead to frozen canals, perfect for ice skating!

🌨️ January and February are typically the coldest months in the Netherlands, with the highest chance of snow and frost.

☃️ Some winters are quite cold, with significant snow, while others can be very mild. Climate change has also made winters more unpredictable, with warmer trends in recent years.

⛸️ A cold winter is exciting for ice skating enthusiasts, as it raises the possibility of the Elfstedentocht, a legendary 200-km skating race on frozen canals in Friesland. However, it hasn’t been held since 1997 due to insufficient ice.

Will we see snowflakes falling or a mild winter ahead? Let us know in the comments—do you love or hate the snow? ☃️👇

📸 Special thanks to @coffyhuys and @madebyjuul for their lovely pictures of Enkhuizen in the snow! 👏

Enkhuizen, so much to discover 🌸

Here’s another post @collagesanctuaries would like to share with you. It comes from Juul Mulder, an outstanding collage artist from The Netherlands. She is known on IG as @madebyjuul. She says, “(...) With my collages, I want to fascinate the viewer, open new perspectives, arouse feelings, or make them think. Colours and shapes, surreal, abstract and concrete, philosophy and psychology come together in my collages.” I would add, of course, let’s shoot flowers instead of bullets and hate.

THANK YOU, DEAR JUUL!

With your work, you let us remember that ‘ART WON’T LET ANY WAR WIN!’ It is through art that we can truly unite and promote peace.

Let’s not forget to visit the artists and collectives. It will be the best way to make them feel that they are not alone in this creative journey.

It’s a wrap!!!

🖼🎨🖼 Today I have had the honour to meet @madebyjuul at the Atelier Route in my beautiful hometown Enkhuizen!!! I have been an admirer of Juul's work for quite a while, and it was fun to meet her and seeing her collage art in real life.

🎨🖼🎨 I have also visited the Walk of Peace exhibition in the Zuiderkerk, where the impressive triptych of @kunstenzinnigyvonnenoorman and the beautiful rainbow poems/paintings of Ineke Floris (among many others) are visualizing that just being kind to one another can bring peace and joy into this world. God knows how much we need that nowadays 🕊

🖼🎨🖼 Last but not least, it was a pleasure to meet @atraceofblue in her own home and see her stunning handmade jewellery. Thank you for your hospitality!

🎨🖼🎨 A special shout out to @kunstenkhuizen for organizing this third Atelier Route weekend.
