![[part ⅔]
Such beginnings continued to become the means and ends of our bonfires — interactive performance art as both intervention and invitation to audiences/viewers/participants/guests. To intervene: meaning to question and challenge sensorial, social, and psychological boundaries and constructions that humans have grown uncomfortably accustomed to. To invite: meaning to offer alternative ways of coexistence intended to nourish our very relationship, which is palpable merely because we trust that it is.
We shared our trembling, barely rendered outlines of bonfires first in close proximity — the cultural-social nurturers Anja, Rikke, Per, Sarah, Hana, and communities such as Bystuen, a communal artistic gathering. In the rush of our earnestness to push our bonfires to excellence, we found that the essence of our flames lay in their ever-changing transcendence.
In their warming ungraspability, our flames were presented at KulturMødet på Mors, a cultural festival with more than 20,000 visitors. At our Agency of Unexpected Encounters, we welcomed visitors home in welling tears, screeched anger, spilled secrets, twinkling joy, and (un)familiar comfort through fantastical games, interactive rituals, energetic exchanges, and collective songs.

By now, I have attempted to summarise the Bonfire Intensive about ten times over the past week, in various ways that language seems to want to hold to the term “artist residency.” It is that, but also more than that.
The truth is, my words will inevitably reduce its meanings and impacts, as it should be a chorus of voices — all the artists, mentors, visitors, experiencers — and not only mine telling you what it was. But I will try, while forewarning that this concentration of words encapsulates nothing close to the whole of it.
I experienced this month as a simultaneous, inseparable mingling of losing oneself and expanding oneself. All 13 of us arrived in Vinderup with different artistries, travel itineraries, and intentions. And we relied on none of that to “know” each other.
Instead, we were led to configure the texture of our coexistence through behaviour and action — through philosophical artistic inquiries such as Thomas and Elizabeth’s discussions, Bart’s experiential night trek, Marga’s humorous improvisational performances, and Jean-Marie and Julie’s poetics of emptiness.
But it was also through Sarah’s tea dialogues, Sara’s acute observations, and Marieke’s exercises that we intentionally arrived at and sensed every moment with “not-knowing,” yet simultaneously with radical care.
How do we lean into the we-space instead of the me-space? How do we let words emerge from the space between us? How do we point to the true, the good, and the beautiful — even in friction? We overthrew our own “selves” (if there is one) into the “interbeing,” a dance within one organism.
