What is Bullying?

Bullying involves a power imbalance where one person or group uses their power to control or harm another person or group.
www.anti-bullyialliance.org.uk

The theme for anti-bullying week this year is
Power for Good.

We need to teach our children that when we have power or influence we have a choice to use it in a positive and responsible way to encourage kindness, support and standing up for others.

These are all aspects you can discuss as part of my book, Speak Up Sami, to help nurture these important traits in our children from an early change.

📖Speak Up Sami is available from wherever books are sold.

📚You can order directly from the publisher www.kubepublishing.com

🇮🇩 Bahasa version available from @yaumi.kids

🖊️ or for signed copies, send me a DM!

Ask your children some of these questions:

What does 'power' mean?
Can you use power in a good way?

Let me know if you had some interesting conversations.

Anti-bullying week kicks off with Odd Socks Day today - a fun and easy way to celebrate our individuality and uniqueness. I actually quite like wearing odd socks!

You can find out more about this week at anti-bullying.org.uk and follow @antibullyingalliance

Now more than ever (especially with what's happening around the world and what's happening closer to home in the UK) we need to raise our children to accept differences and live peacefully among each other regardless of the colour of their skin, their gender or faith.

Books are powerful in delivering strong messages.

My award-winning debut book, Speak Up Sami gives parents/teachers and children the opportunity to discuss important things around bullying, kindness, friendship and using your voice for good.

Sami joined my bookshelf in 2022 Alhamdulillah and it's still a firm favourite for many.

The anti-bullying alliance theme for 2025 is Power for Good. Speak Up Sami, beautifully illustrated by @madimarart and published by @kubepublishing is an excellent choice to explore this theme.

Bahasa version available too published by @yaumi.kids

Speak Up Sami

Sami is a quiet boy who does not enjoy going to school, but things begin to change when a new boy, Gamba, joins his class. When Sami sees Gamba being teased, will he be brave enough to find his voice and speak up? Speak Up Sami is an empowering story about courage, kindness, and friendship. A heartwarming book to enjoy at home or in the classroom, providing opportunities to have meaningful discussions around bullying, diversity, and celebrating differences.

2024 Round-up

I thought about what I've achieved this year and I came up with 'not much.' It hasn't been easy to consistently work on book projects.
However, as I looked back at pictures in my phone, I realised, Alhamdulillah a lot happened even though I didn't achieve as much as I would have liked.⤵️
📚📚📚

1. I finally got round to adding my award seals to Hamza Attends a Janaza.

2. I continued working with Ratih @arratihra on my third book.

3. Was invited back by schools during World Book Day.

5. Rabia @dreamsandduas (my publisher for book 3) surprised me with a special element for my book - Zain Bhika features in the audio version!

6. It's Madrassa Time! launched for Ramadan and it also sold out! Alhamdulillah

7. I shared the Hamza Doll which I worked on in collaboration with Oak Creative Designs @oakcreativedesigns

8. Hamza was selected as one of the Best Children's Books by Bank Street College of Education.

9. I hosted a couple of Ask Me Anything sessions for writers.

10. Honoured to be a judge for The strange Inc. Book Awards 2024 for the picture book category.

11. Speak Up Sami was translated into Bahasa, Alhamdulillah!

12. Hamza sold out again through Kube Publishing, Alhamdulillah.

13. I started a couple of writing courses (I've completed one!)

14. I've been writing more and reading more books this year.

Alhamdulillah for it all. Thank you all for being here with me on this journey and through a difficult year.
InshaAllah I can work on another book project in 2025 and may we all witness a better world for everyone, may all the oppressed find freedom from tyrants and may those who have committed despicable acts be held accountable insha'Allah.
