Dear Track & Field. A young man came to you as a 17 year old that didn’t know a thing about the sport. All he knew was he was crust from the previous two springs and just wanted an opportunity to play. Through the first year, you taught him everything he needed to know about your crazy sport and you gave him the opportunity to go compete at almost the highest level his first year. You introduced him to the sport of Shot Put and made him fall in love. Now a year later, the boy is legally a man and wants to go back to that same level he competed at one year prior. Through you, that boy reached that goal, but in the meantime he brought home 7 medals, including a 6 meet streak of placing 3rd or higher, but most of all, you allowed him to become All-State. It’s not much compared to other athletes you had play your sport, but it’s a lot for someone who only payed any attention to the sport for 2 season. Best of all, you gave that boy a feeling of belonging. Something he longed for during the spring months of freshman and sophomore year. Gone were the days of crying after practice and venting to anyone he could. The boy no longer felt alone, and the only tears that wept were from when Track season was over. ❤️☄️🥇
