In today’s episode of things that got stuck in drafts: one of my favorite work events of the year, @fashionscholarshipfund’s #FSFLive Gala. Every year gets better and better, and it’s an honor to work my tail off alongside some incredible humans to get the work of this incredible organization out into the world in the best and biggest way possible. Thank you to Peter Arnold for trusting me, to my small yet mighty social team for nailing it all, and bravo to the FSF team for pulling off the seemingly impossible! 🏆

This week, we’re excited to share one of the most important moments of #FSFLive: our FSF Finalists’ on-stage presentations! Each of our four Finalists had a chance to speak directly to the audience about how their paths had led them to that very moment at the Gala in NYC, and how their childhoods, educational journeys, and lifelong passions inspired their top-scoring Case Studies.

First up: Madison-Jade Bishop (@madisonjbishop), a Drexel University senior whose Merchandising Case Study, “Redefining Comfort,” focused on Ugg and Marriott collaborating to create a new category of cozy luxury, merging comfort with world class hospitality. Watch as she shares how her childhood love of skating and her parents’ encouragement and support led her to the development of her Case Study, created to bridge the gap between how products are designed and how they’re experienced.

The @fashionscholarshipfund put on a night I will never forget✨

If you know me, you know I have been beauty-obsessed since 7th grade. My first product was an Urban Decay palette, and from that moment, something clicked. I’d beg my parents to drive me an hour and a half from my small town in Illinois just to get to the nearest Sephora. My collection grew fast, and by 14, I was already working my first job to fund it.

Growing up in a small town, not many people understood it. My obsession with beauty was met with comments I never quite understood, because to me, my passion was no different than someone who lives and breathes sports, no offense. It was just mine. But one thing about me is I never let those comments change my path. If anything, they pushed me closer to it.

I made a decision early on that I wasn’t going to just love beauty from the outside, I was going to build a career inside of it. That determination led me to pour everything into my case study and ultimately reach the FSF Live Gala stage in New York City, sharing this exact story in front of a room full of the industry’s most influential leaders and designers, like Law Roach, Travis Scott, Tommy Hilfiger, Ciara, Russell Wilson, and more.

Standing on that stage in New York City and looking out at a room full of 900 people, I thought about that girl in the small town who just wanted to be understood. She would have never believed this moment was possible. I am so proud and honored to be recognized in this way and to join the incredible FSF community🤍
