Five apparatus. One of them came first.

The mat work is the method. The reformer, the Cadillac, the chair, the barrels - one of them was built afterward, to help people access with the mat already asked for. Springs assist. Straps support. The floor does neither.

This is not a hot take. It’s the chronology.

mat Pilates is not the easy version. It’s the original one. Joe built the mat work first. The springs assist you – that’s what springs are for. The floor is just you vs gravity.

Ten days until Kink Boston goes back to the floor, which is where this all started.
