There’s something I love and hate about this photo.

Father’s Day, June 15, 2025. Our last dinner out with Jason.

My mom and Jason always shared such a beautiful relationship, and seeing them together, both holding up peace signs, makes me smile.

But those canes break my heart.

I look at this photo now and see things I didn’t fully understand then. The pain, the struggle, and how much was about to change. Little did I know this would be our last Father’s Day dinner together.

Today, as we celebrate my mom’s birthday, I can’t help but think about this moment. I know in my heart Jason was right there with us, celebrating her, just as he always would have.

Some photos become memories. Others become reminders of just how precious the moments we take for granted really are.

If only I had known.

Happy Birthday, Mom. I know Jason was celebrating you right alongside us.
