Written entirely alone. Not found in the United States for 37 years.Did you know the real reason? 👀 Drop your take below.

Hello my followers.

1985. Madonna writes the entire « Gambler » alone. The last time she will do it solo for more than twenty years.
The title is a hit in a dozen countries, entering the top 10 almost everywhere in Europe and Oceania.
But in the United States, his own label refuses to release it as a single. Not censorship — a calculation. The soundtrack belongs to a competing label, Geffen. Sire doesn’t want her to overshadow her own album, Like a Virgin.
Result: the song is not even sent to American radios. Yet, in the United Kingdom, she becomes her eighth consecutive top 10 of the decade — a first for a female artist.
It will be necessary to wait until 2022 - thirty-seven years later - for « Gambler » to finally make its streaming debut.
Madonna herself played it only once on stage, in 1985. A ghost song, which has become a cult despite its almost total absence.

The studio didn’t want to take her out. Recorded in a single shot. Became a classic.

Hello my followers.

1985. A song born from a vocal improvisation during writing. The studio doesn’t even want to release it as a single.
It is the producer of the film Vision Quest who personally insists on convincing the executives. Madonna plays a bar singer there.
His usual producer, hitherto confined to pure dance-pop, takes up a real challenge: recording the title live, in a single shot, rather than in separate tracks.
The result becomes one of its most beautiful number one. Performed on three different tours, the most recent in 2024.
The most beautiful moments do not always arise from a plan. Sometimes it only takes a single take, and someone who fights to believe it.

Did you know about this initial resistance? 👀 Drop your take below.

Before having a label, she toured the clubs herself. Here’s what was born

Hello my followers,

Before @sirerecords , before any contract, Madonna was touring New York clubs herself, demo under her arm, looking for who would like to make her known.
From this approach is born « Lucky Star ».
A simple clip, her dancing in front of a neutral background - nothing else is
necessary.
The look, on the other hand, immediately becomes cult: lace, multiple crosses, stacked bracelets, visible navel.
Millions of young women will copy this style in the following months, without always knowing that it was born from a demo promoted by hand, club by club.
Before beina a alobal fashion sianature the Madonna style was first a survival strategy, carried alone, by herself.
No one built Madonna’s career for her.
« Lucky Star » is the simplest proof of that: before becoming a worldwide tashion signature, the Madonna look was tirst a demo, carried trom club to club, by a woman alone who refused to wait for someone to come find her.

The producer of his first single thought of continuing. The label chose another.…

Hello my followers.

1983. @mark.kamins , the DJ who released his first single, expects to produce the next one. The label decides otherwise.
It is @reggielucas, just out of a collaboration with @iamstephaniemills , who picks up the production of « Burning Up ».
The title comes out in double-side A with « Physical Attraction » - a strategy to maximize the radio and club broadcast of both songs at the same time.
Decades later, « Physical Attraction » will even be cited among the essential titles in the entire history of synth-pop.
From her second single, Madonna already understands a rule that will never leave her: in this industry, control is not offered. He takes himself.
We often imagine a legend’s beginnings as one smooth, uninterrupted rise. Madonna’s reality was harsher: by her second single, she already learned that a label can push anyone aside, even the person who believed in her first. She never protested publicly. She just learned the lesson, and never forgot it again.

In my opinion, Madonna's acting was pretty good here (unlike Swept Away) and This Used To Be My Playground remains of of my favorite Madonna ballads 💔
