Say hello to the new original painting that’ll be living on my walls for the rest of my life 🥹
We saw @madsenco and kids absolutely rock this project, and decided we needed a painting of our own for the playroom! We just moved our TV from the main wall to a sidewall (trying to de-center it from our minds tbh) and we’ve got a big empty spot that’s been waiting to be filled (and yes, I do have empty spots on my walls. Decor/art indecision plagues me the same way it plagues everyone else even though I own enough art/prints in the studio to fill more than a few homes)
So we decided to break out a big canvas and use up some of the leftover tubes from my paint & sips. This took her about 3 days to do, and I really only added a few things + a lot of directions.
There’s something special about kid paintings that just can’t be replicated by adults!!

Here’s an easy 4th of July activity to do with kids!

Make your favorite sugar cookie recipe and use this royal icing recipe to decorate some patriotic cookies! 🇺🇸

Royal Icing Recipe:
3/4 cup warm water
5 Tbsp meringue powder (can find at Michael’s or on Amazon!)
2 lbs powdered sugar, sifted
3 Tbsp corn syrup
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
Red, white, and blue GEL food colorings

1. Whisk warm water and meringue powder til fully mixed.
2. Pour into stand mixer, cover with lid, and mix on low with paddle attachment for about 10-15 seconds, or until just bubbled.
3. In a separate bowl, sift the powdered sugar, and whisk in the cream of tartar.
4. Pour powdered sugar mix into meringue mix and mix on low until combined.
5. Add corn syrup and vanilla.
6. Mix until all ingredients are just incorporated, scraping down the sides as necessary.
7. Add more sifted powdered sugar to thicken or add small drops of water to thin to desired consistency.
8. Scoop into separate bowls and add desired gel food coloring.
9. Decorate your sugar cookies.
10. Let dry for at least 12 hours or you can eat right away!
Note: keep icing covered at all times or it’ll crust and dry out.
