#YOCS25 Making Waves: Young Minds, Big Impact 🌊🐙

Organizing this year’s Youth Ocean Conservation Summit on behalf of Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium has been one of the most meaningful projects I’ve taken on to date. Organizing this event was a true labor of love. What began with months of preparation and planning took shape into a truly powerful gathering on November 15th.

This year’s theme “Making Waves: Young Minds, Big Impact” set the tone for every detail of the summit. I wanted this milestone year to not only celebrate the last 15 years of youth engagement and environmental stewardship, but to also elevate the voices of those who will shape the next 15. From the planning process, to the breakout sessions, and the plenary stage itself, youth were deeply integrated into every element of this event.

I’d like to give a particularly special shout out to my amazing teen leadership team who demonstrated to me from the very first brainstorming session all the way to the big day that when you give young people a platform, they don’t just participate, they lead and inspire others around them to do the same. Whether they were leading workshop discussions, presenting their projects, engaging with partners and mentors, or designing this anniversary year’s iconography, their contributions and presence weren’t just symbolic, they were foundational. Their ideas guided my decisions, their perspectives shaped our conversations, and their leadership helped me bring this year’s summit to life.

I can’t thank the Mote Education team enough for trusting me to bring this year’s event to life and for all of their support along the way. I am also grateful to @sean_russell92 , whose founding vision laid the foundation for the Youth Ocean Conservation Summit and all the amazing impact that has come from it.

From the bottom of my heart, I extend my sincerest gratitude to every teen who attended this event, and to all the speakers, partners, staff, and volunteers who poured into them. Proud is an understatement. Inspired is too. Thank you to everyone who made #YOCS25 unforgettable!

Can’t believe it’s been 15 years! Back in Sarasota for a milestone @yocsummit at the new @motemarinelab Science Education Aquarium with over 100 young ocean advocates and community mentors building solutions oriented ocean conservation projects! Celebrating 15 years, thousands of incredible participants from around the world, and the partners, volunteers, host sites, sponsors and YOCS leadership team members who have made this impact possible over the years. Huge shoutout to the @motemarinelab team and @flowkimbro, @jimwharton, and @alybusse for their belief in this idea and the power of youth leaders from day one. Forever grateful for the community we’ve created over the years and can’t wait to see what’s next! #YOCS25 #moteeducation

A rich and hearty thank you to the people of UNOC! Meeting so many from all across the ocean, all working in their own way to protect what we love and rely on - smart, gutsy, phenomenal humanoids. Many not pictured! So grateful to be there amongst.
