When I was a child during the 1970s, I remember the normally cheerful house going quiet and the mood growing somber when a story came on the television news about yet another bombing in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where my parents were born.

My father and mother left Belfast in the late 1950s for Canada and then America to seek a better life, but they were both very homesick for their hometown, and soul sick for what was happening to it.

My father became a regular contributor to the Los Angeles Times newspaper. He became known as a peace activist and received death threats because he criticized blindnesses on both sides of the conflict. He appeared on TV and radio shows. He never talked to me about Ireland’s troubles, but I heard his conversations with friends. I would also pick up the newspaper when another of his stories appeared. I was proud of his powerful way with words, and for fighting for peace in his country.

I traveled back to Belfast with him when I was 15 and can still remember the tension in the air. It was illegal to leave a car parked with nobody in it. There was so much violence, the little town of Belfast rose to the forefront of the world stage.

The violence didn’t end so much is it petered out as the younger generation failed to embrace the hatred and intolerance of their predecessors. The last time I was there, in 2021, the consensus was they were all fed up with the fighting and division and just wanted to live in peace. My dad‘s dream had finally come true.

Seven years ago I went into a house in Vegas that made me rethink what I was taking and putting into my body and I learned how to start treating it better paying attention to @jasonstrauss that day which transcended my journey getting into the field of functional health medicine. Through coming down with chronic illnesses and being a cancer survivor I have been a health advocate not just for myself but for others that have gone through similar struggles which made me go back to school and get better educated @nutritionschool . I have never been more proud of this movement and this school I graduated from @iinalumni our teachers are spearheading changing peoples perspectives on health! Today this is a proud moment for me, now it’s time to change the world!
