🇺🇸 THIS IS WHY WE CARRY THE FLAG!

Today during Carry The Flag Saturday, some kids asked me a question.

“Why are you carrying the American flag?”

And my answer was pretty simple.

“I’m carrying it for you.”

For them. For their future. For the next generation of Americans.

Because one day it’s going to be their turn to carry it forward.

And it’s our responsibility to show them how.

That’s what Carry The Flag is all about.

It’s not just for our military or first responders.

It’s for the teachers, nurses, librarians, construction workers, business owners, moms, dads, and every hardworking American who gets up and does their part.

THIS is who Carry The Flag represents.

You don’t have to physically carry an American flag to be part of this movement.

It’s about how you live, how you lead, and what you’re doing to make this country better for the next generation.

But I’ll tell you one thing.

I’m damn proud to carry the American flag, and I’m not going to stop!

I hope more Americans will join me.

Because this country belongs to all of us, and its future is our responsibility.

🇺🇸 MAI RAN 450 MILES FOR OUR VETERANS!

450 miles and nearly $15,000 raised for veteran organizations and events in South Dakota!

Think about that for a second.

450 miles!

Mai took something she loves doing and turned it into something bigger than herself.

And THIS is what Carry The Flag is all about.

It’s about stepping up and doing something for others.

It’s about honoring those who have served our country and making sure they know we haven’t forgotten them.

You don’t have to physically carry an American flag to Carry The Flag.

Sometimes it’s about putting one foot in front of the other for 450 miles to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Meet Mai Richards, a Spearfish native and Vietnamese adoptee who has always believed that the opportunities we’re given come with a responsibility to give back.

What began as a single 22-mile Memorial Day run to honor America’s fallen grew into a journey of remembrance, service, and giving back. In Love and Sacrifice: The Journey of Running with Purpose, Mai Richards shares the story behind her annual Memorial Day Honor Run and the creation of Miles of Honor, a 450-mile run across South Dakota in May 2026.

Through stories of the fallen heroes she carried with her, the veterans and communities she met along the way, and the experiences that shaped her own understanding of sacrifice, Mai explores how love can inspire service, how gratitude can become action, and how each of us can use what we have to make a difference.

We’re so grateful to have Mai joining us for our lunch & learn series! Join us from noon to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 11th to hear her story.

8/11 was Military & First Responder Appreciation Day 🇺🇲♥️
It was such an honor to work side by side with @mai.richards that morning as we served free breakfast to our veterans and first responders. It felt wonderful to volunteer for this event. I love giving back. To see all their smiles was such a beauty.

A powerful moment of remembrance at the Stone House Saloon. Robert Patrick, New York Myke, Tim Duffy were some of the featured guests for a dedication led by Brian Klock of the Hero’s Foundation & Outreach Pentagon Memorial.

Together, riders, veterans, first responders and supporters gathered to honor the men and women whose lives have been defined by service. The memorial provides a permanent place for reflection, remembrance and gratitude, while the Hero’s Walk recognizes individual lives and legacies through engraved memorial bricks leading to the monument.

What I loved most about making this post is realizing there are way more than 20 folks & snapshots I wanted to share… so maybe this needs to become a series.

Sturgis Buffalo Chip—aka the family reunion I look forward to coming home to every summer.

It’s the relationships, the buffoonery, and maybe just the fun of it all. Or perhaps it’s our shared love for motorcycles and the things that make you feel alive.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for great people, great adventures, and the Black Hills. 🖤 drop a line if you’re coming to the Buffalo Chip this year!
