❌ Three days ago, for the first time ever, I quit on a race.

The plan was: 35km, 1700m of elevation, get the job finished.

But at 21km and around 1200m of elevation, I quit. I hit my head on a tree, and was massively dehydrated and overheated. Basically, I got a lot of things wrong on the day, AND in the build up to the day (including a lack of proper training, lol). After about 8k, I had a massive headache, I couldn’t see properly, my vision was blurry, I was confused and disoriented, I couldn’t think straight, my breathing was all over the place, and I was making bad tactical decisions.

So... I’m disappointed I didn’t get the job done, but I’m pleased I didn’t put myself in danger.

… but, most importantly, this run gave me an even-bigger appreciation for some of the ANIMALS that I train with here in Da Nang. Lots of us started the race, some of us finished. And Vietnamese people are some of the hardest on the planet 🫶🇻🇳

Special shoutouts go to @dorinelululul, @maiiillle, @jolietran213, and @thien.scribbles for finishing the race that I couldn’t… and @lin.phnn for finishing that same race as the 7TH OVERALL WOMAN. And a massive well done to @mattcanton, who somehow managed to complete the 55km version of the same event (I genuinely can’t wrap my head around how he managed to do that - legitimately unbelievable stuff).

A massive privilege to coach these legends, train with them, and call them my friends. @tag__fitness is some team. Đi thôiiiiii!!!!! 🇻🇳

Hanoi International Marathon 🇻🇳 🇻🇳 🇻🇳

So much to unpack from the weekend but first things first and that’s to give a huge shout out to our amazing runners.

Conditions were not easy at all, a downpour at the start of the full marathon made the surface very slippy, combine that with the humidity and poor lighting around most of the course, it certainly wasn’t an easy run.

16 total finishers with all opting to run the half marathon or more, even more insane it was the first time running any sort of running event for 7 of them, 5 of the 7 started running 6 months ago 🤯🤯

We had 7 PBs!! Which is crazy to think In conditions like that. The energy at the finish line was incredible, everyone so happy to see each cross the line. Nothing beats that feeling.

If any of that information doesn’t Inspire you to start running or sign up for the next marathon then nothing will.

You aren’t really ever sure of what you are capable of until you decide to find out.

That’s what these lot did this weekend.

They found out.
