Thank you Mayor Mike.

For five years our nonprofit and sisterhood has been breaking the silence of domestic abuse across Maine, community by community, in all sorts of bold and creative ways. Domestic violence is a huge problem in Maine and the first step in solving any problem? Talking about it.

Community members, and community leaders like Mayor Michael Morris, showing up is critical to our mission of promoting understanding, compassion, and CHANGE💪👏!

Thank you to all who did that in the first three days of Domestic Violence Awareness Month at the @rocklandstrand @mainefilmcenter and the @portlandmuseum and of course to my 10 sister survivors on the discussion panels.

One of the most beautiful things about our Finding Our Voices Goes to the Movies tour at the @rocklandstrand @portlandmuseum and @mainefilmcenter the first three days of Domestic Violence Awareness Month is gathering and reuniting with our sister-survivors from all across Maine.

Some are attending their first FOV event and meeting us for the first time, some know each other only virtually from our weekly online support group, and some are central to our mission of bringing the epidemic of domestic abuse in Maine out of the shadows and women survivors into the light.

Third and final opportunity to join us on this tour of love and light-- around Livi Kessel's uber-powerful documentary on the coercive control and her chilling march along the eight stages of domestic violence homicide called "Out at Six"--is today in Waterville, 2 pm, at the Maine Film Center.

Come join us if you can💛💛💛📣💪🤩

Mia is one of 10 local survivors of domestic abuse who will be sharing on a rotating basis with audiences in Rockland, Portland, and Waterville this week the stage they managed to escape their dangerous intimate partner, based on Jane Monckton Smith's chilling eight stage timeline to domestic violence homicide.

Livi Kessel, the brilliant young filmmaker whose amazing documentary @findingourvoicesmaine is partnering with the @rocklandstrand @portlandmuseum and @mainefilmcenter to bring to Maine, got out at Stage Six, hence the title of her film: Out at Six.

Other topics of the post-screening survivor-led discussion include how to spot the danger signs and best help someone at risk.

No better place to talk about it than in Maine, where year after year for decades half of all homicides are from domestic abuse. And no better time than as a kick off to Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Oct. 1,2, and 3 screenings are free. Join us, and please share this post!!

Livi Kessel, filmmaker of the documentary "Out at Six" about the relationship that was marching through the eight stages that lead to domestic violence homicide as identified by Jane Monckton Smith, and about when it all became clear.

@findingourvoicesmaine is partnering with three beloved theaters to bring Livi's film to Maine next week for its North American premiere.

After each of the screenings in Rockland, Portland, and Waterville, local survivors will share what and who helped them get them out, and at what stage.

Finding Our Voices is partnering with beloved community theaters to bring a powerful documentary to Maine to blast off October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

In 2025's "Out at Six", young filmmaker Livi Kessel, with whom I had the joy and honor of spending the day on the Greek island of Hydra in May, relates-- against the groundbreaking 8-step homicide timeline developed by criminologist Jane Monckton Smith --how she was swept off her feet in a fairytale-like romance at 17 years old and through coercive control step by step lost herself and almost her life.

Livi got out at Stage Six, hence the film title Out At Six.

The hour-long screenings will be followed by a rotating group of local women survivors talking about how they got pulled into danger with an intimate partner and at what stage they got out, and leading a discussion on how everyone can spot the danger signs and best help those who are trapped in them.

The events are free and open to the public, with more information on each theater's website. Please join us!
