Bass Harbor Lighthouse in Acadia National Park. (BLEND)

Milky Way “season” is usually defined by the visibility of the core but recently I am finding the other parts of the arc to be just as rewarding to shoot.

Everyone on Mount Desert Island heads to Bass Harbor Light for sunset. I’d send you to the Quiet Side of the island, but not to Bass Harbor.

By the time the Bass Harbor crowd is jockeying for a spot on the rocks, you’ve had the harbor almost to yourself and you’re sitting on a ledge watching the boats.

Park at the Seal Cove town beach lot (in marked parking only), walk the shoreline east, and don’t check the time. Dogs on leash are fine. Little Long Pond is five minutes up the road.

Bass Harbor Light is beautiful, but it gets so crowded they have Rangers parking people. If you still want to go to the lighthouse for sunset, make sure to get there 2.5 hrs early (at least). They park people up to half a mile from the lighthouse.

☀️✨Save this for your Acadia trip. The rest of my quiet-side sunset list is on the blog (link in stories).

🛑🚫 As always, be respectful of the locals and please leave no trace in this beautiful space 🚫🛑

Half the battle with photography, especially here on the east coast, at least in my opinion, is getting up and out for sunrise. I am so lucky to be staying up here near Acadia with @capiapioli through tomorrow.

I was treated to a show of sea smoke. So many different sea birds passed by as I sat watching the fog roll along the top of the water. It was truly enchanting. I also realized the bird sitting on the tree behind the dock house is an osprey that does not seem to have gotten the message that it is time to migrate.

🌊 I honestly don’t know how to put into words what I witnessed in Camp Ellis on the 3rd day of the nor’easter… September 27th,2026 - high tide.

I don’t usually post my nature, photography or videos on here, but i had to make this an exception.

I’ve spent a LOT of time around the ocean. I’ve photographed countless waves, storms, high tides, rough seas & some pretty incredible things happening out there. But I have never seen a wave behave quite like this one.
For a moment, it almost didn’t look real.

The wave came rolling toward shore with this incredible power.

And then, just as it reached the shoreline, it seemed to change its mind.
Instead of simply crashing onto the beach, it turned and began pulling itself back toward the ocean — only to meet another incoming wave head-on.
The two collided in this incredible dance of water, power and motion. It was chaotic… but at the same time, absolutely beautiful.

I stood there as I recorded it thinking, “How in the world am I going to explain what I’m seeing?”

Sometimes the ocean creates moments that a video can capture… but never quite explain.

This was one of those moments.

I’d love to know what YOUR thoughts are when you watch this.

Have you ever witnessed anything like this before ?

Tell me your thoughts — I really want to hear your interpretation.

There is no denying my love for lighthouses. No, you won’t see me rocking a sweatshirt adorned with them, though I’d make it look so good. But you will see the many images I’ve taken as if there is a lighthouse in my travels, I’m going out of my way to capture it!
This is the Marshall Point Light made also famous for its feature in Forest Gump.
