Ngā mihi nui me haere rā!

This week, I've been fortunate enough to get to listen, learn, talk, share stories, yoik, laugh, write, and work together with @arianatikao, @duddjojun_crafted and @mairatea, both in Staare, at @gaaltijesaemienmuseume and in Göteborg, at the Book Fair, as part of a project that was initiated by @sverigesforfattarforbund, in collaboration with Bágo and @tjallegoahte, to bring Saami and Māori writers together, as part of the UN International Decade for @indigenouslanguages.

A lot of behind-the-scenes work, leading up to the workshop in Staare, as well as a panel discussion and a poetry reading at the Book Fair, has been done by the brilliant poet @eriklindmanmata and the writer Sanna Wolf-Watz, as well.

I am happy that we got to bring Indigenous voices to Gothenburg and the Book Fair, which, now, more than ever, needs to find a spine, and think critically about its role and moral as well as legal obligations in our current climate, both as a cultural event and as a platform for important debates, if it wants to survive.

I truly feel that this was the start of something bigger, and we're now dreaming of not just an anthology full of stories, poems and essays by Saami and Māori writers, but of future exchanges between Sápmi and Aotearoa, where we get to involve even more voices, as well.
