She’s fierce, she’s fluid, she’s unapologetic 🎏❤️

From a blank canvas to this denim x koi fantasy! I wanted to mix the strength of a cheongsam silhouette with the raw edge of patchwork denim and the grace of red koi fish. One sleeve, one glove, thigh-high boots and all the attitude ✨

And the best part? This is an UPCYCLED DRESS ♻️ Eco-friendly but make it fashionable! Giving old denim a new life and a whole new story.

Koi represents strength, perseverance & transformation - just like this look and just like upcycling itself.

What do you think of this fusion? Let me know in comments!

My mom (@maisonmaman______) just finished this painting of our beloved cat, Charlie, a British Shorthair. I composed this song “Sunshine on the Carpet Floor” about Charlie as well.

Charlie came into our lives on Christmas Eve in 2019, when he was only two months old. He had traveled all the way from Washington state to New York, and when we picked him up at the airport, the poor little kitten was very tired from his long journey.

When we brought him home, my dad said not to take him out of his carrier, but to let him come out by himself when he felt ready. About a minute later, Charlie came out and immediately went straight to his litter box and used it all by himself! We were so amazed. He was only two months old, in a completely unfamiliar home, and yet he knew exactly what to do.

We had never had a cat before, so we knew almost nothing about cats. In our building, we weren’t allowed to have dogs, but we could have cats. We had no idea then how much this little kitten was going to change our lives.

Only a month or two after Charlie arrived, COVID changed everything. Like so many people, we suddenly found ourselves stuck at home for months. It was a difficult and uncertain time, but Charlie brought so much joy into our home. We played with him, watched him grow, laughed at the funny things he did, and never felt quite as bored or lonely because he was there with us.

Now Charlie is almost seven years old. It is hard to believe that the tiny, tired kitten we brought home from the airport is already nearly seven! ❤️

Since Charlie came into our lives, our home has felt warmer and happier. We love him so much, and this painting is my mom’s little tribute to a very special member of our family, along with my song “Sunshine on the Carpet Floor” playing in the background. 🎨 🐱

When my mom @maisonmaman______ was growing up, long before Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and other online platforms, making a living as an artist was generally much more challenging than it is today. Many artists depended on galleries, exhibitions, art fairs, commissions, teaching, and word of mouth to share and sell their work. Reaching collectors and art lovers beyond their local communities was often very difficult.

Artist communities have always existed, but they were usually local and much smaller. Today, artists from every corner of the world can encourage one another, exchange ideas, celebrate each other’s creativity, and generously share each other’s work with a global audience. That sense of connection is truly something special.

Although success still takes dedication, perseverance, and hard work, today’s artists have more opportunities than ever before. I feel grateful that my mom is painting in this new era, where a work of art can travel around the world with just one click.

To everyone who has supported my mom’s artistic journey, whether by leaving a kind comment, sharing her work, or simply taking a moment to look at one of her paintings, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your encouragement means more to her than you know. 🎨🌎❤️

When I first joined Instagram as an author and illustrator, I hoped it would be a place to share my work.

What I never imagined was how much the people behind the screens would come to mean to me.

Being a disabled creative means I spend a lot of my time at home, and creating can sometimes feel like quite a solitary journey. But through this community, I’ve found encouragement, inspiration, genuine friendships, and people who celebrate one another’s successes with such kindness.

Every thoughtful comment, every message, every cheer from the sidelines has meant more than you probably realise.

One of the loveliest things about this creative community is that we all understand the excitement of finishing an illustration, the vulnerability of sharing our work, and the courage it takes to keep creating.

So if you’ve ever liked one of my posts, left a kind comment, shared my work, or simply followed along on my journey… thank you so much ☺️

You’ve helped make this little creative corner of the internet feel a little brighter 🫶🏻❤️❤️❤️
