A message from our owner, Jeff Wang:

It's been quite the month trying to get everything sorted out from our kitchen fire. But, at last, I have a clearer picture.

I’ve decided to close MAK.

I struggled with this decision because it felt like failure. However, this has not been a failure. Not in the slightest bit. These have been some of the best years of my life and I am grateful for this opportunity to serve the community that I love. I have met so many amazing people that will be a part of my life forever, and have learned so many things that have made me a better person. If anything, I see this as the end of one chapter and beginning of the next.

No business is meant to last forever, and we've defied the odds by being open for 11+ years. That wouldn’t have been possible without YOU! Thank you to the entire Wicker Park community for welcoming us in 2013 and supporting us through the years!

We are always looking for new employer partners to:
•hire our graduates 🎓

•be guest lecturers and demo a staple dish

•host a transitional job candidate

Happy AAPI Heritage Month!

Thank you @wangsworld and the City of Chicago for inviting us to help celebrate our heritage with such talented vendors @yumdumtruck @bayankochicago @hermosachicago @mak_restaurant. And of course, thank you @chicagoculturalcenter for providing the gorgeous event space.

We loved bringing back our “lo mein” take out cakes for this fun event!

Some details about the cake design:

The Chinese calligraphy banner translates to "Asian American Heritage Month" a red signature stamp that says “Love, Sugar & Grace.”

The yellow sugar flowers are representative of Thailand’s national flower.

The sugar lotus is the national flower of Vietnam and India.

The rose of Sharon is the national flower of South Korea.

The sugar cherry blossoms are the national flower of Japan.

The red sugar knots signify good luck and prosperity.

The sugar koi fish signifies harmony.

The cake stencils that were used are available for purchase through @cakesbyangelamorrison.

Cake Flavors: 1) Blood orange sponge, yuzu lemon curd, blueberry buttercream. 2) Toasted miso caramel, dark Belgian chocolate cake, Tahitian vanilla buttercream.

#bradsfavoriteplaces MAK in Wicker Park. I got the Bibimbop (no meat), blistered green beans, their amazing kimcheesy rice balls, and a pink lemonade. All outstanding as usual. And got a photo with Jeff the owner at the end!

@mak_restaurant 🥢❤️ having a nut allergy can make navigating different kinds of cuisine hard. I trust Mak & their nut-free kitchen (only exception is some desserts). I can still enjoy the delicious food that I want, worry-free! Even if you don’t have an allergy (lucky you, I’m jealous) you should definitely check this place out

You know what they say... DON’T judge a book it’s cover!!! These goonsty boiis were poppin in flavor. The appearance on em were a little weak, however these lightly fried, crem cheese fillin, crabby paddy puddin, finna make my buds go off!!! Fellow Chinese enthusiasts @jasonkurkiewicz and @haus_sauce21 and I enjoyed $96 in Chinese food tonight and we all agreed these boiiis were the big cheese. The big crem. The crem of the crop out of this Sunday funday Chinese array. _________________________________ Overall: 7.7
