“it was said to me that i should find friendship upon the way, secret and unlooked for. to have found it turns evil to great good!” —jrr tolkien, ‘the two towers’

thank you to the gorgeous geeks who mobilized to fly me across the world to @comic_con. it was such a delight to dance and laugh and dine with the loves of my life in @theringsofpower, at @primevideo, and in the lotr community at large.

for nearly half a decade, ROP has indiscriminately brought together the most beautiful people from all walks of life into this sprawling, love-filled tolkiensphere. how grateful i am to this show for granting me the most precious of all fellowships. i will be ✨sat✨ with a ferocity for season 3 ❣️

I was lucky enough to be invited to San Diego comic-con by @theringsofpower for season 3 and was able to meet some incredible folks and spend some time with some good friends in the Tolkien sphere.

It was a whirlwind of a trip but I made some memories that will last a lifetime and I feel incredibly lucky for the opportunity to have been able to be a part of it.

I got a lot more pictures to share but thanks to everyone and thanks to everyone here that has been watching my silly videos the last few years and to everyone I met there that said my videos have made an impact in their life. Love you

Comic Con is almost over! I’m exhausted, but I’m so sad it’s ending.

I spoke on my first SDCC panel this weekend, my second time with this awesome group though. Someone go back in time and tell little Miranda that someday her love for Tolkien will get her an official spot speaking at Comic Con!

SDCC is also THE BEST time because I get to reunite with so many of my friends. Creating Tolkien content online has brought some truly incredible people into my life, from all over the world. And getting to hug them and laugh with them and feel so understood by them is a gift.

I love you all. Thank you for this crazy time.

To follow up last week’s post discussing the cast of characters as mentioned and/or alluded to in Unfinished Tales, this #tolkientuesday we’re scouting locations where the action is likely to take place in Middle-earth.

I’ve provided a map on slide two, breaking the action down into two main treks, that of Gollum and Aragorn making their way to Mirkwood and the progress of the Nazgûl on their hunt for the One Ring. On slide three, you’ll find a list of the pivotal locations and the main characters tied to them.

Come back next week as we begin to take each location and drill into the potential plot for THFG.

Comments open! What are you looking forward to most from THFG?

Reviving a series of #tolkientuesday posts discussing the potential plot, cast of characters, timeline, and ME locations for the forthcoming Andy Serkis-directed “The Hunt for Gollum.” Principal filming begins this spring for a Dec. 17, 2027 premiere.

…

A chapter from “Unfinished Tales” titled “The Hunt for the Ring” covers events that take place between “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings”, specifically from the time Gollum is captured and released from captivity in Mordor to Frodo Baggins leaving the Shire with the One Ring. Events that precede this timeframe are also discussed.

Each week, I’ll be discussing the plot from this chapter in “Unfinished Tales,” as it may pertain to events we eventually see play out in THFG. I’ll also use Tolkien’s map of Middle-earth to inform and guide us.

For this re-introductory post, I’ve put together a list of the characters mentioned in Tolkien’s unfinished tale, including those unmentioned but may reasonably be included in the film. (See Slide 3).

Come back next week for a look at the locations pivotal to the plot of THFG.

(The most noble of the Valar, Manwë the High king of Arda and his Unwavering Wisdom, part 1)

Manwë Súlimo reigned as the King of the Valar, the spouse of Varda Elentári, brother to the Dark Lord Melkor (Morgoth), and High King of Arda. He commanded the winds, airs, and birds. As the Ainu with the greatest authority, though not necessarily in power, he was known as the Lord of the Breath of Arda and the Elder King, appointed by Eru to rule.

Manwë, the Ainu most beloved by Eru and closest to his thoughts, served as Eru’s representative on Earth. King and lord of Arda, he ruled all its inhabitants. He and his wife, Varda, were rarely apart. He controlled the air and winds, from the highest reaches to the gentlest breezes, and commanded the birds. Ulmo was his closest friend and ally, joining him when water vapors formed clouds high in the sky. Together, they faithfully served Eru’s purpose.

He resided in his halls atop Mount Taniquetil, the world’s highest peak. With Varda, his sight surpassed all others. Creatures of the light served him, delivering news from the farthest corners of the world, except for the dark depths under Ulmo’s domain or those concealed by potent evil.

As Eru’s vicegerent on Earth, Manwë was a kind and compassionate ruler, uninterested in personal power. He wore blue robes, had blue eyes, and carried a sapphire scepter crafted by the Noldor. The Vanyar were his favored Elves, dwelling with him and Varda on Mount Oiolosse, where he enjoyed their songs and poetry.

Manwë’s weakness was his focus on amendment and maintaining order, which diminished his creative power and his ability to handle difficult situations. This affected his interactions with Melkor, driven partly by fear and partly by a desire for control.

With it being Halloween week and all, I wanted this Tolkien Tuesday to be ever-so-slightly moody but I wasn’t keen on leaving off with the elves just yet… so, enjoy Galadriel: Evil Mode.

On February 15, 3019 TA, the Lady Galadriel invited Frodo Baggins to look into the Mirror to see things that were, things that are and some things that have not yet come to pass…

When Frodo peers into the glass-like watery surface of the Mirror he sees a future ahead that feels like a fate worse than death and so offers the One Ring to Galadriel.

These screen caps from The Fellowship of the Ring show the moments of Galadriel’s temptation to become a dark Queen and her ability to resist the yearning for the One Ring’s power.
